Hey! So I'm looking for a good laptop to be able to use for mainly just programming and other school stuff. I don't need a dedicated graphics card for gaming or anything like that.

My budget is around 400 USD and this is what I found https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Vivobook-Laptop-Windows-E1504FA-AS54/dp/B0CWJB9ZC6/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.zEMJsIxY_GCI3nW-8FPZlC8AHqU4f6jd3XS-lUfazPT_rWoUOsS-cVYCNXE3htA7R7QqYEmYVH_Yeh_xEolNGglnJKIbrVinvVdYHbS7odQQnVPBg-VU5rEiBFljSO8OcYI-wEIzxM7RrrE7Yzh879ZKUdfCs8hxMDeeFkx1i2RNBjW7aj3jLWGYGRphM1TmYxyh8UTaIj0nFkoiMYvDzw.1CvBlhu__aeJC1h4IrAkSPHxldpPjDpZ6n_3kZ5e1UY&dib_tag=se&keywords=windows+11+home+laptop&qid=1735155975&refinements=p_36%3A24500-46000&rnid=2421885011&sr=8-4

Do you all have any other suggestions or ideas or are my two options good? If so, which one do you all think would work the best?

I'll just say 8GB of RAM is insufficient, you will likey use an IDE and those things alone can take up that much nowadays...

yeah 24gb is definitely a pro of #1, not to mention way more storage

Im honestly just worried it's too good to be true. It has so much ram I've never heard of a laptop with that much TBH. I did a CPU check and the IdeaPad had the best CPU and I like the SD card holder

Also storage isn't a huge thing for me if it has a SD card slot because I have another 512gb SD card

Irrelevant, once you run out of RAM you can have the best CPU in the world and your computer will still become unbealivably slow...

That IdeaPad has soldered RAM, you can't upgrade it like a normal laptop...

That is the problem with buying entry level stuff, for 400$ you have to compromise.

Also:
SD cards are quite slow, sequental and especially for random reads and writes.
For OS and software stuff you want those random read and write speeds...
Not to mention most SD card readers in cheap laptops are typically connected via USB 2...
TL:DR Only good for storing stuff you rarely use, like documents, pictures, etc.

You would be better off plugging in an external SSD via USB 3, or better yet replace the M.2 NVMe with a larger one (at least that you can upgrade on the IdeaPad 1).

If my budget was set to 400$ I wouldn't be looking at buying new...
Up your budget by ~200$ or buy used.
