My computer has randomly stopped displaying after working previously about 3-4 hours ago. At first I thought it was my GPU which had some problems in the past. Sometimes when I booted it up, the GPU seemed to be artifacting and the computer essentially became unusable but would fix itself after a restart. I've tried to reseat the GPU which did nothing as well as try to plug in my display port to my motherboard instead of the GPU which also resulted in nothing. The monitor is definitely on as I can see it flickering a black screen very slowly. The motherboard also lights up as it usually has when it is booting.

Here is my build (All these parts are around 8 months old except the GPU which I've been using for about 5 years)

Sounds like the GPU may have finally bitten the dust. Does your 7800X3D's iGPU show the same problems? What about using the same GPU in your other x16 slot? Do you have a spare dGPU?

Don't tell me to upgrade. I would've done so if I could.

iGPU has the same problem. I do not have another GPU with me but I could try putting it into the other x16 slot

Seems like we can rule out the GPU then. If the iGPU shows the same issues, then it may be motherboard related. Are you getting any POST LEDs during, well, POST?

Whenever I turn on the computer, the LED's start to flash. Usually a variation of yellow, white, red, then a green one. Once the green one lights up, after a few seconds it goes away which typically happened when it functioned normally.

That looks like a standard POST procedure during startup, although it lasts a little longer on the red LED. What name belongs to that LED, and have you tried reseating the RAM and CPU? Otherwise it may be related to the motherboard.

The red light appears to be on CPU and the yellow on DRAM. I just tried reseating the RAM which led to nothing. I wouldn't be entirely thrilled to reseat the CPU as I don't have any thermal paste available to me.

This might lead to slightly worse temps, but you can try to be quick, and not touch the thermal paste at all whilst you try and reseat it. I don't really recommend it, though.

I swapped out my display port cable and took out 1 of the RAM sticks which provided me with the motherboard splash screen but nothing else. I am able to get into the bios now at least.

Just disabled EXPO on both the sticks which, after a restart, didn't display the motherboard screen

Can you get into the OS or not?

No I am unable to get into the OS. I didn't touch it for a bit and its showing the motherboard screen again. The bootup time is much faster now, as before, the yellow light would stay on DRAM for a good minute or two.

I just took out the RAM stick I took out before and it loaded me into windows

Whenever I seem to make a change (as in taking a ram stick out or putting it back in) it boots up slowly and after a restart it then decides to boot up quickly. I've got into windows 3 times now but it is not consistent at all and usually happens after I wait a long time before trying to turn on the system again.

Check every RAM stick. You might have a failing RAM stick.

I've tried both RAM sticks many times but there is no consistency. I have 2x16gb sticks and I just swapped 1 for the other which got me into windows but upon shutting down and booting again, it doesn't display anything.

Did you try different slots and/or spare RAM?

Tried different slots and the only ones that seem to work are A2 and B2. I tried putting only 1 of the sticks in A1 which led to a yellow light on DRAM that wouldn't turn off. I don't have access to any spare RAM. Asked a friend if I could borrow his real quick.

Good. Please let me know when you got some spares.

I figured something out. Whenever it boots as it usually does, If i keep unplugging/plugging in the display port into the GPU, it will eventually display the windows home screen.

Do you have any other cables that you know work fine??

I swapped out the cable with a brand new one earlier which didn’t change anything. Don’t have an hdmi cable with me.

Try putting everything back together, see what happens. Have you got some spare RAM yet?
