Hello,

I currently have a 1tb m.2 but I am looking to fill my other m.2 drive, the one I have available are behind my GPU so not loads of space for a heatsink, I will be using it to store only games on so a fast one would be more suited for my needs. I do not know if I even need one with a heatsink but I have heard it is good to have one. I have the B650 eagle ax as my motherboard.

Thanks Guys 🙂

Gen4 runs hot and should have a heat sink. Gen3 is safe to run naked.

The skhynix gold is my favorite gen3 drive being consistently fast and crazy reliable.

Be patient and wait for a good sale so you can get top tier performance at entry level prices.

So you have 3 M.2 slots

M2A_CPU PCIe 5.0 x4

M2P_CPU PCIe 4.0 x2

M2C_SB PCIe 4.0 x4

so I do recommend getting a PCIe 4.0 ssd ( as later you can put it in the slowest port, and still have 3500MBps ), at least sn580 from the cheaper ones, but it all depend where you are buying from ( country ) sometimes you can get Crucial p5 plus, or Crucial T500 in similar price.

it’s easier if you just give a country?shop, the capacity of the ssd, and budget you charge.

ps. The PCIeX1* slots are only PCIE 3.0 x1

Looking at the mobo layout, the m.2 pcie gen4x2 = gen3x4, so a gen 3 could go in that slot, as a gen 4 would only give gen3 speeds anyway.

If you find a gen4 with heat sink, use the gen4x4 under it for max speeds.

The skhynix plug for reliability is regarding drive health. After 5 years of use, 99% health still! All my other newer ssds have lost health much much quicker. I'm almost positive the gold drive will outlive me. It has a 4x life expectancy versus most ssds, not optane reliability, but still insane.
