USB sensor power switch

Hello, today I was working in an editing room and the main computer is an iMac. It is connected via USB to a power box that switches on the rest of the devices: monitors, speakers etc... I thought it was very nifty but I don't really know what to search for if I were to buy something similar for myself. Any clues?
