Budget (including currency): N/A

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming (mainly)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hi

I'm going to upgrade my current build as I need the CPU, motherboard and RAM to put into an Unraid server. Current parts are i7-8086K, ASUS Maximus X Hero and 32GB G.Skill DDR4 Trident Z RGB 3600Mhz. The cooler is the NZXT Kraken X62 which I'll be reusing in the new setup (with appropriate mounting bracket).

These are the components I'm thinking of getting to upgrade, just wondering if anyone has any feedback on these parts? Any others I should consider etc?

That's ok, not sure of the board quality tho, but what is your GPU and monitor resolution? GPU may be a huge bottleneck with a 7800X3D at 1080p on an old/weak GPU

AMD R9  7950X3D CPU/ Asus ROG STRIX X670E-E board/ 2x32GB G-Skill Trident Z Neo 6000CL30 RAM ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 ARGB cooler/  2TB WD SN850 NVme + 2TB Crucial T500  NVme  + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD / Corsair RM850x PSU/ Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / ASUS ROG AZOTH keyboard/ Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

GPU is a 3080Ti FE. Monitor is LG UltraGear 34GN850 ultrawide (3440 x 1440).

What motherboards are recommended for that CPU these days?

Some Gigabyte B650 Gaming or Elite

But really all B650 boards are ok with a 7800x3d, look at the connectivity/audio/M2 and PCie slots you need

No need to be vague, here's like 1500 pounds worth of examples that will work nicely,

Only way to have all the details at hands about USB ports, M2 and Pcie, lane sharing...Not needed but useful
