CPU tips for PC upgrade

Hi you all,

 

After years of decent performances, I've been experiencing a lot of lags in-game for a while. So I am planning to give more love to my computer by upgrading its CPU. 

Budget (including currency): 600€

Country: France

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: LoL, RPG games (BG3, Starfield, AC, ...), 5X games (Civ, CKIII, ...) while being on Discord with friends

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

My current build rn :

CPU: Intel i5-8400 

MB: Gigabyte B360M HD3

RAM: DDR4 2333MHz 24Gb

Storage: 3 SATA drives (1 SSD 250Go, 1 HDD 1To, 1 SSD 1To) + 1 M.2 SSD 1To

GPU: RTX 3080

PSU rated at 1000W (i think)

 

My main goal is to upgrade the CPU so I keep playing at 1440p, ~60fps, high/max settings. The lesser components I need to change the better (but it'll all depend on the price in the end).

I don't know if I should go for Intel or AMD and what cpu.

I'll suggest getting a new CPU, Motherboard, RAM and CPU Cooler.
