Budget: Experimenting - just has to be cheapest possible while being within minimum requirements.

Country: Pakistan

Workloads:

Minecraft server with mods for 2-3 players maximum.

Later to be converted to an on the net storage.

Minimum requirements:

  • CPU: 2Ghz Min with 4 cores.
  • RAM: 16GB (Needed because of the mods - emphasis on can not be lower).
  • Hard drive: 128GB SSD.
  • Cooling: Mini fan on top of cpu, or possibly not if rig can easily stay within workable temparture on high loads (Avg room temp is between 30 - 40 degrees celcius).
  • Graphics card: Dedicated graphics card that comes with the CPU.
  • Motherboard: 2(+) usb input, no wifi, 1(+) ethernet, 2(+) slot RAM, 1(+) SSD input, 1(+) hdmi port. (Other extra peripherals should not matter I believe).
  • Case: Open case.
  • OS: Any OS that is light-weight (basically a linux distro).

Current selection:

  • CPU: Intel pentium N3540 (Comes with board and dedicated graphics card is a given) $50 on aliexpress.
  • RAM: 2 * 8GB DDR3 1333 MHz (the celeron sets my ram requirement) $30 on aliexpress (Too many brands to choose from, most likely go with samsung).
  • Hard drive: 128GB SSD Golden fir $10 on aliexpress.
  • Cooling: Have not found a suitable mini fan yet, your suggestions would help.
  • Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics for Intel Atom Processor Z3700 Series.
  • Case: A black painted cardboard box found in the closet.
  • OS: Learning about Debian and Arch.

Main questions:

I am new to building with celeron or pentium, and on my current selection's page:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/82105/intel-pentium-processor-n3540-2m-cache-up-to-2-66-ghz/specifications.html

it is noted that max RAM is 8GB.

Is this per slot or in total?

Anything else I should change with my current selection?

Final note:

Let me know if anything I wrote is confusing, will clarify best I can.
