so my ssd is comparability running hotter than my other drives, i bought a cheap enclosure (probably and mostly the disk activity LED area seems warmer than usual, can i just tear apart that small LED and call it a day? i do want it in case there's unusual activity on the drive. Is this temp sustainable in long term? i know it's ideal but my drive should be fine. Summers in my region are really hot reaching 40C+ but right now things are running cool because i have AC.

44c is very good for an SSD. Nothing to be worried about here.

enclosure

Logically : You put a device that generates heat in an enclosed space without an airflow or a proper heatsink, it will get increased temp of course.

Anyway, that temp is fine, even 2.5" SSD in my pc case which is right behind front intake is like 30ish.

Want it cooler? forsake the enclosure and just use SATA to USB adapter cable

i have 2 external SSDs..........both Crucial MX500 SATA SSDs............i put them in identical Orico external cases.......one is recognized as a SSD while the other is recognized as a HDD..........😁

my boot drive (also a MX500) is running at 38 degrees celsius.......... the one recognized as SSD is running at 39 degrees celsius............while the other one recognized as HDD is running at 47 degrees celsius...😟

so you also have the same problem, in my case it's probably a cheap enclosure.

funny thing is when i completely remove the cover of the casing , the temperature dropped only 1-2 degrees...........so i think an expensive casing won't matter

44 Degree is fine, so i wouldnt worry about the enclosure. Anyone feel free to correct me, im only just recently into my journey of diagnosing dodgey SSDs but.. 52% Health Status after just 7.499 TB written? Is that the more concerning figure?

Peronally I bought a 2TB Fanxiang SSD 2 days ago and installed 800GB of data into it before it bricked, it then read as an unformattable 255KB generic drive after. The Vendor was great thpough and sent me a new one within 14hrs, so far Ive been running CrystalDiskInfo & CrystalDiskMark checks on it intermittently.

image.png.5aee5db928b84f944015815a9fe88a64.png

But compare this to an old drive of mine, its done 26TB of writes and is still at 98% Health:

Maybe this is worth someone who knows more commenting on for the OP who has a health score of 52% ?

Thanks,

yeah i know about that, it's strange because my boot drive has over 27TBW which is more than 5 years old and still has 73% health (120gb bx500), i expect higher TBW limit for higher capacity models (in general that's the case). Even worse thing is, i get 10-12MB/s write speed on my both 480gb bx500 while my boot drive still sustain full speed.

i think your newer BX500 are using QLC now................

i' using a 250GB MX500 as a boot drive for almost 3 years and after just over 20TB written...........health is at 70%

also your erase count is super low at 198..............mine is 391

when QLC drives were new, i remember many people saying they are not worth it at all. Now i see why.

TBH, i think crucial blatantly cheated their customers with these highly low endurance drives, i mean wouldn't have they done the proper quality test of these drives before they came to market? Samsung also has QLC drives but this thing doesn't happen to them
