I want to migrate my Windows 10 OS from SSD to a HDD, so I can install Linux OS on the SSD. I have one SSD which currently only has the Windows 10 OS, one empty HDD which I want to migrate the Windows OS to and one other HDD which have all my data. I used to do this couple of times with free programs but now none of them supports migrating an OS on their freemium apps, you have to pay for this feature. I have tried a lot of them (Acronis, EaseUS, AOMEI and others), does anyone have done this recently and want to share a free and secure way to do this?

I am really desperate and thank you in advance (I really mean it!).

I can recommend DiskGenius. Its free edition supports OS migration and many other usefull functions.

Here's a good video showing several apps, one of them being DiskGenius.

Just remember to have the target harddrive set to GPT partition style, not MBR.

Windows is way heavier than Linux and boots very slowly on a HDD, you'd better install Linux on the HDD

@PDifolco & @vanpuffelen I know Windows is slower on HDD and Linux on the other hand is lightweight. The thing is that I will be using Linux only and the Windows will be just for "in case" situation. This is my secondary machine and I haven't used it in years, so I decided to make it a home server (NAS, maybe Plex and BlueIris in the future..).

Clonezilla is free and supports both partition styles.

Don't tell me to upgrade. I would've done so if I could.

Yes I only mentioned because the newer Windows requires it to be on a GPT.

DiskGenius supports MBR aswell, except when it comes to OS migrate Windows. It can however convert a drive to GTP with some simple clicks.
