I got a Newmen GM610 for $10 yesterday, but that thing is trash and I mostly picked it up for some modding tests and fun.

What I’m looking for now is a big boy keyboard. The stuff that’s very important to me:

-Thock

-Hot swappable 3 and 5 pin

-75% or 96%/1800

-High quality build

-RGB (keyboard controlled RGB is fine)

-removable USB-C

Nice to have but not a dealbreaker:

-Aluminum case

 -knob

-not opposed to building it myself if it saves a lot. God knows I have enough switches and keycaps for it

-VIA support

-screen

-wireless

-the pricier I go, the less interested I am in opening it up to mod it unless I’m building it myself anyway. If I do need to mod it, clips are a dealbreaker

High end of my budget is $80, and so far I’m looking at the F75, F99 and AK820 Pro more than other boards, but 100% open to something else as I am not 100% happy with any of those.

plz help. I’m used to buying $20 boards and modding the hell out of them, so buying a nice board is kind of foreign to me.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

So I just did exactly what I said I wouldn't do and bought another el cheapo board. This cost me $9 after promo codes and Amazon reward points:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D1G3HPSH

None of the nicer boards out there are really grabbing my attention, but this is a $14 board (after AMZ discounts, before reward points) with a silicone base, 3/5 hot swap, IPXE/poron foam, and probably no reason to open it up once I've got it. Which is good, because opening this board up would be a bitch. I'll probably throw some Leobog Graywood v3 switches in there since the entire world seems to love then, or maybe some Gamakay silent tactiles.

There's also the matter of my Kono 84 board, which I opened up for the first time today and saw that it has zero foam inside the case. The PCB now has four layers of painters tape on it, and guess what's coming in on Friday? MOAR FOAMZ!!!!!! If that ends up taking care of it (and it might--it's a damn nice board), I'll just return the X82.

Thanks all. I just didn't see anything that really jumped out and grabbed me and doesn't have serious drawbacks, so I'll see what hits the market in Q3/early Q4 and buy my nice board then. Until then, back to modding the crap out of cheap boards to see what I can do with them.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
