cpu possibly too hot?

Go to solution Solved by MiszS,

Your CPU cooler fans don't spin at all? Are you SURE that the 4 pin fan cable is connected to the "cpu_fan" header? If so, check the fan curve, it may be set to something weird, though idk how could that happen without you doing it

hey, I recently noticed that my cpu averages ~79c while under 6-11% utilization. My cpu cooling fans never turned on after building my pc but i assumed it was similar to my gpu where it doesnt turn on until my cpu is above a certain temp (for example my gpu fan doesnt turn on until its above 50c). I have a AMD Ryzen 7 7700X  and my cpu cooler is a Thermalright Frost Spirit 140 V3 ARGB 77.8 CFM. I was a bit confused on all the wiring thats in the cooler but they all connected and were plugged in last time I checked so im unsure why the fans dont work and neither does the lightning. If this changes anything, the load that i currently have (at the range i specified earlier in the post) is me with 3 instances of firefox, discord, spotify, minecraft, and a few other very low impact things like calculator, task manager, hwinfo and speccy. I'm starting to get a bit concerned about it especially since i live in a very hot part of california where currently we are averaging days of above 110f and i cant tell if my cpu troubles are contributing to the heat in my room. Thank you for any help you will provide I will try my best to respond as soon as i can, I work a lot but I will try to respond if there are any further que stions needed. I apologise if my english is bad it is not my first language.

EDIT: just adding on some more, im asking if 79c average is way too much for the current load and/or if there is anything to do about the fans not lighting up or running or if that is normal for the cpu cooler.

That's normal with Ryzen, figures show the max temp on a core, and some core will boost on any load and get hot

You're still 10C below TJmax so nothing worrying here

You can reduce that a bit with undervolting (Curve Optimizer)

I managed to get 1 fan out of 2 running but i just launched with a bad boot and it making me diagnose the pc. I got it to open again but due to me not wanting to really mess up anything badly I think I might leave it at 1 fun running for now. Do you think that it's enough to be able to run fine with 1 fan? Ive had this computer for ~6 months now just am getting worried with the heat outside.

1 vs 2 fans doesn't make that big of a difference (like 5% i think), just make sure it's the one between the heatsinks

it is the one between the heatsinks, ive retested my cpu temps with a similar setup and although im getting only 4-5% usage, im now down to these temps

What happens when you load Cinerbench and CPU is at 100% ? Have you tried
