Guys I have no idea whats up with all the networking stuff. However I wanted to access my media through PLEX.

Hence I used Manual Port Forwarding since I dont know about the UPnP or NAT whatsoever and I doubt that my my Modem + Router even supports it.

The problem is that I heard people complaining about security issues when forwarding Ports.I am forwarding only two ports via TCP/UDP.

I have also used DHCP for the static IP nonsence.

My questions are

1) Is it safe to use Port forwarding ?

2) What are lease times in DHCP

1) Is the only way to access PLEX out site you house, I use an exactly ip to access my content so I only allow this ip to pass across the router.

2) The default time is 2 days I guess, but you always can use a static ip to your server, and use this all the time ;)
