Posted June 19, 2024 (edited) Me and @Average Nerd debated whether or not they exist and whether or not they exist in real life as well as if they are polygons. Now it is time for you all to decide! Posted June 19, 2024 My take is that they don't really exist, because it's impossible to make an actual perfect circle, it will always just be a polygon Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1574098-your-take-on-circles/#findComment-16443703 Share on other sites
 Posted June 19, 2024 (edited) My take: Circles (due to being two-dimensional) can't exist in 3 dimensions, therefore they don't exist IRL. But given high enough precision, it should be possible to make an object round to a point where the crystal structure of the material would determine the surface finish (so circles are not polygons in my thinking). Posted June 20, 2024 As someone who has studied calculus, it is a polygon with infinitely many sides. I don't think they exist. On 4/5/2024 at 10:13 PM, LAwLz said: I am getting pretty fucking sick and tired of the "watch something else" responses. It's such a cop out answer because you could say that about basically anything, and it doesn't address the actual complaints. People use it as some kind of card they pull when they can't actually respond to the criticism raised but they still feel like they need to defend some company/person. If you don't like this thread then stop reading it. See how stupid it is? It's basically like telling someone "shut the fuck up". It's not a clever responsive, it doesn't address anything said, and it is rude. ^ ----- MKBHD is but an Apple propagandist and fanboy. Take his videos with a grain of salt, especially about anything Apple. In his video titled "I Visited Apple's Secret iPhone Testing Labs!", he has shown that he makes no effort to fact check Apple's claims, and takes it at face value. I do not believe he can be trusted as an Reviewer/Influencer. ----- bruh switch to dark mode its at the bottom of this page VPN Server Guide Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1574098-your-take-on-circles/#findComment-16444785 Share on other sites
 Posted June 20, 2024 I'd say that circles can exist, but mostly as intersections, like two bubbles sticking together - although we may still see imperfections. And what about halos and rainbows? Do we require a circle to be a physical object, or can they be phenomena or physical laws like the expansion of sound - again, they exist in principle but will have imperfections due to the conditions not being clinical and perfect? And no, they are not polygons as they have no corners or straight sides. The "infinite number of sides" description is an approximation, nearing but never achieving the characteristics of a true circle or curve. mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*) Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1574098-your-take-on-circles/#findComment-16444831 Share on other sites
