So my laptop, Asus Vivobook 14 M413I has been having BSODs on the regular out of nowhere. I tried looking at event viewer after crashes and found this: A critical event which is ALWAYS after the error event.

I've searched online for the issue and nothing has worked. sfc scans, drive health checkup, etc.
I started HWinfo64 to check for some other issues and found that my CPU is reaching 94.8C occasionally. I set alarms for when it does cross 90C and it is like a pattern. Sometimes it will regulalry cross 90C and stay around there, other times it will chill at 57C or something.

My laptop is out of waranty and I've no good experience with the service center as well. I'd rather troubleshoot it on my own unless some major soldered component is giving up :<
My thinking is that, is the CPU reaching 95C and shutting down? If so why is windows not throttling the CPU? OR is windows throttling not working at all?
Also, I noticed Thermal Throttling (PROCHOT EXT) is set to True. I've attached all images below.

Go to C:\Windows\Minidump and check if you have any minidump files. If you do, go back to the Windows folder and copy the Minidump folder itself to the Downloads folder (You can use the desktop if you don't have OneDrive syncing files). Zip the copied folder and attach it to a post. Please follow the instructions to the letter as Windows doesn't like you messing with files in this location.

Sorry, didn't see the volmgr error. That was from it not being able to create a dump file.  Do you remember the crash error? When it can't create dump files, storage is the main suspect. The error might give some further clues.

Other causes for it not being able to create dump files:

  • Not enough room to create the dump. They all start as full kernel dumps which can be as large as your amount of RAM + 3-4GB. I've seen 67GB dump files on a system with 64GB RAM. They are then pruned to minidumps later if it's set to create minidumps.
  • Page file is too small. If it's on System Managed size, it should just expand it, but if you've set a manual size then it needs to account for huge dump files. The page file is where it dumps all the data.
  • Drive encryption. The dump process happens outside of Windows so it doesn't have access to encrypted drives.

1. My C drive has 52GB storage left. My system has 8GB RAM.

2. Page file is system handled.

3. Hm, but why is it happening all of a sudden? I've had this laptop for like 3 years now.

Also, is the temp situation okay? It is still constantly touching 90+ C in temps.

Do you remember what the crash errors are? And 90°C is completely normal for the CPU/GPU in a laptop, but the SSD would not like those temps. You have to check the temp of the SSD.

The crash errors are always those vlogmr ones. Always after a BSOD, they are present.
These are the temps of my ssd under some load.

No, on the BSOD screen. It will state it here: image.thumb.png.3476f153afeefc6c6c2149ee4daafac8.png

Update: I used the built in windows option to reinstall the current update (keeps the installed apps and user data). It took a while, but it is now performing ok. The main issue, CPU power throttling under burst loads is now working and the dumps are now getting generated.
Again, thank you for your inputs and brainstorming! ❤️
