Budget (including currency):

Country:  £530 (lower the better)

PC will be used mainly as a racing sim, with semi-regular VR through a quest 2. Games are mostly Asseto Corsa, WRC & Warzone.

I have an Acer 144hz 1440p monitor which will be used for everything else.

I currently have the following:
CPU: AMD FX-8320
GPU: AMD RX 580 8gb (MSI ARMOR)
RAM: 4x4gb DDR3
PSU: Bitfenix 650w Semi Modular (also have a corsair GS700 spare)
MoBo: some basic Asus
Storage: Kingston SATA 120gb SSD + Seagate barracuda 1TB 7200rpm HDD

Looking at the following as a replacement:

CPU: AMD 7600x - £200
GPU: AMD RX 580 8gb (I will carry this over as still works and will upgrade later) - Free
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 - £115
PSU: A carry over of one of the above - Free
MoBo: Gigabyte B650M D3HP - £130
Storage: Crucial P3 1tb gen 4 5000mbps - £70

Total Upgrade cost: £515

I’m flexible on things like ram and storage as well as the Motherboard, this just seemed to be the best value and compatible that came up with a quick search.

I have compared this cost wise to an AM4 build and looks to be £100 more than the 5700x overall & £35 more than 5800x3d (even looking used, there doesn’t seem to be a huge saving than getting new)

I thought the extra cost for the step up to AM5 may be a smarter move in the long run to allow for upgrades down the line?

The upgrade path with the AM5 platform is the way to go in my opinion.

You need a cooler for the 7600X but you can go with the 7600 non X as it comes with a stock cooler and its only 1-3% slower than the X version.

I would like to see a better motherboard if you plan on upgrading down the line to a better CPU.

sell this for about £25, it's old and not great for a somewhat new build like this

Corsair GS700 dates back to around 2012 or 2013

yes it is, don't get a 7600x though, harder to cool than something like a 7600 non x and they perform the same in games

Depending on the cooler the OP already has, there's a chance that it could be compatible. It just depends on the way that it is mounted. If it uses a custom backplate, it won't be, but if it uses the mounting clips, it actually should be. There are coolers from all the way back in the AM2 era that are still technically compatible with AM5.

With that said, I second the recommendation of the 7600 non-X. It's basically the same CPU, but often cheaper and including a stock cooler that is definitely compatible.

BFP Fury 550, so slightly lower than I remembered.

Noted, I’ve got a be quiet shadow Rock 2 on currently, not sure if there’s mounting adapters available, will need to look into it. Could use the stock 7600 for a little anyway.

should be fine. If you plan to upgrade the GPU to a 7800 xt or a 4070 Ti down the line then upgrade this

if it doesn't I'm pretty sure you can contact be quiet for a mounting adapter, there should definitely be an am5 mounting adapter available though

Never mind, doesn't support it. Get the thermalright PS120SE

it's not that good, I've got that stock cooler that I'm using on a 5600 (it's the same one as they use in the 7600's box) and it is quite erratic (after about 1 min of stress tests temps jump by 15 degrees, then again, I use an ITX system)

Unfortunately, that cooler is not AM5 compatible, as it uses a custom backplate, and the backplate on AM5 is not removable like it was on AM4 or AM3.

https://www.bequiet.com/en/cpucooler/446 - The compatibility list from the official website is: AM2(+) / AM3(+) / AM4 / FM1 / FM2(+)

Thanks for heads up, will go with the stock cooler for a month or so until I can upgrade to something more substantial
