New m.2 ssd

Need some advice I bought a new SSD for my PC and wanted to know if I can swap out the old one and put the new one in it's place and the old one in slot 2 for ssd, now would everything still boot up and run the same with no issues or do i need to transfer all the data to the new one first then install the old one in slot 2? If that makes sense. And what other steps do I need to do to my PC to make sure everything runs perfectly. Sorry it's my first PC upgrade and don't wanna screw anything up so please help!
