I'm looking for a ISO for Windows XP Home Edition. Where should I get one?

Idk any reliable online sources but I will say check around your parents (or even yours or a friends depending on how old you are haha) cd drawers for  "repair" or "recovery" disks, there were pretty much guaranteed to ship with xp laptops and contain the full windows install image. then when you set up your vm you can pop the cd in and set it as disk 2 or something. Its also easy to just rip the cd to an iso and mount that to your vm.

Try here.  I’ve installed an OS/2 Warp 4.5 image and poked around a bit. It brought back some memories and made me appreciate how easy things like networking are these days.  I missed Rexx.

Idk if it's the same for VMware though.

Other than a CD, your best bet will be the Internet Archive.

Always make sure the ISO has not been modified by using Powershell or 7-zip to find the SHA checksum and verify.

No. Can be left in Downloads folder. VMWare only reads it as a "virtual disk" it does not need to be stored in a specific location to mount an iso.

I googled “import a virtualbox image into VMware player” for you.

VMware has made radical changes to their licensing recently. It may be time to explore another hypervisor like Proxmox, kvm, or Virtualbox.

The activation key is typically inside the install CD case. Since you downloaded it, you will need to find a key from an old system or online.

The keys for each version of XP are different, so make sure you find the right one.

You're not going to find it here.

Locating install media is one thing, but posting license keys (or links to them) would cross the line and go against the community guidelines.

@DoughmanX_HD please note this discussion can continue but the community cannot assist you in acquiring an activation key for discontinued software. Though it is unfortunate it will cross the line of piracy and breaches the Community Standards.

My suggestion to you is to inquire Microsoft to see if they would be willing to provide you with a method to activate the software. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus
