Yeah sorry I understand its a little hard to say, I won’t be using the pcie5 features for a while, mainly just like them for future proofing. The upgraded rear i/o is also nice, but again probably not needed for me. I’ll probably just get the cheaper one, even though I like the look of the mpg more too.

I wont be losing out on performance with the cheaper one will I? I will be using a r5 7600x for now but will a top of the line cpu run well in the cheaper one?

Im running a 7800X3D in mine and while its the "cheaper" one, its one of the best of the mid tier boards you can buy and at quite a reasonable cost.

Also motherboards provide no benefit to performance so you wont be losing out on anything, PCIe 5 is also largely in its infant stages, most GPUs that run on PCIe 4 can run on PCIe 3 at minimal loss to performance, so we havent even maxed out PCIe 4s data bandwidth yet, bar possibly the 4090 coming close but its still not there. PCIe 5 NVMes for gaming are pretty much useless as youll see millisecond-1 second improvements over gen 3 NVMes in loading screens etc. Itll be a long time before PCIe5 becomes the norm and minimum required spec for anything really

Motherboards are a strange product for "whats better" that only you can really answer, will you make use of the extra features?

It simply comes down to that question, if not, then no, if you will, then maybe? If the extra features justify the cost

Me personally im running a tomahawk, the extra features of the carbon would have been really nice to have, but i simply didnt have a need for them and didnt want to spend the extra money on them

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX NITRO+

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Case Fans: Fractal Prisma (120 x6, 140 x3) + 2x40mm fans

Thanks for the heads up, was worried that I would have to get another new mobo for my next build 🙂
