I while ago I had a conversation with my computer friend about how my hard drives were filling up and how I installed an m.2 ssd into my motherboard to help alleviate that storage. This conversation happened a long time ago, so I don't remember exactly waht he said, but when I told him that I was considering buying another one, he said my motherboard or cpu might not be able to handle it; something about lanes iirc. I'd like to ask about if there would be a problem if I were to install another m.2 ssd.

For reference, my motherboard is one ROG STRIX z270E GAMING, and currently I have installed one samsung ssd, two 1 and 2 TB hard drives, and one 1TB m.2 ssd on the motherboard, as well as a RX 5700XT and i7 7700K.

youre board supports up to 2 m.2 drives. check the book on your MOBO some boards have the SATA ports and M.2 ports connected and one will disable the other. But other than that it should be able to take it the 7700k will be fine

Technology is like a good friend that does its best to piss you off at every turn. yet we love them anyway.

Thanks so much for that suggestion! I went to take a look at the manual and sure enough, there's some writing about how the M.2 ports are linked to the SATA ports. I think thats enough to get me through another M.2 install. Again, thanks so much.

If speed isn't all that important, simply get a single 4TB hard drive like Seagate BarraCuda for the price of a 1TB NVMe drive and remove all other HDDs, except for the SSDs. You can use the Samsung SSD as cache for the HDD and leave the m.2 drive as system. That way you will still have 2nd m.2 slot free + 4 more SATA slots (or 2 if you decided to get another m.2 later).
