Budget: about 600 dollars + $ of case

I live in the US.

Mainly for gaming, such as Fortnite, csgo, valorant, halo, etc.

I have practically nothing yet except a ssd but am looking to build with the parts below

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2rksPF

You guys got any suggestions to make it better for a similar price? What case should I use?

Switch to the R5 5600, its a lot more common and has better single core performance, its worth the slight price increase on average. Though if you just gotta save 20 bucks, the 5500 is fine.

PSU is overkill for a conventional build like this, look for any decent 500-600w psu:

MSI MAG A550BN 550 W Power Supply - Newegg.com

Kinda all id really suggest changing up here. As for a case, get a good case from the start as it makes long term changing a lot better.

I recommend the Asus Ap201 from personal use for a micro atx case. Its just built nice, and easy to work with. Considering its around $75 and most of the cheap matx cases are $50 anyway, its worth spending the bit extra to get something decent.

Oh ok, thank you for your suggestions

Nevermind, similar thread.  For $621c, this is gonna play all of those really fast while already having onboard wifi and bluetooth.  Yeah the 5600 is faster, but the 5500 is fast enough for a 6700xt.  I’d much rather have the 6700xt with a 5500 than any slower GPU with a 5600.  A used 6700xt on eBay will have this under $600 and would be totally fine.

Just a reference list since youll be buying a decent chunk of the parts used

Used 5600(x) are 80-100$ with used 5700x/5800x around 120-150$

Midranger b3/450 board like the gaming plus/tomahawk, pro4/steel legend, aorus elite/pro, strix -f, etc. Usually around 50$ used

Case doesnt contribute to performance so spend as little as possible, might be able to get some cheap <20$ cases that are half decent or you can look for a 5$ or straight up free case

Same goes for the psu but you do want a decent one, only one worth buying new atm is the toughpower gf a3 850w at 90$ with a 10 year warranty but due to budget constraints settle for a used 750/850w rm(x) or equivalent which can be found for 40-60$, if you are lucky you may also find cheap 1000/1200w units but im not talking about ancient silverstone units from 10+ years ago

As for the gpu look for a used 6800 or 3080

Since were dealing with used you can haggle prices down slightly so maybe you can get some extra improvements like a better cooler or even a better gpu depending on luck

For the parts that arent gonna be bought used

Nvmes are almost never worth buying used due to pricing being too close to new

Same goes for coolers due to new pricing, imo only worth it for dirt cheap or outright free downdraft coolers you can ziptie mount with ease like those old intel 775 copper cores or am3/fm2(+) amd copper heatpipe coolers

You may be able to find used rams for cheap, usually on fb marketplace either a random xmp kit or someone bulk selling a buncha oem rams, though cost savings are generally quite minor and you really do this mainly for performance, ex buy 4 8gb sticks of m378a1g43eb1 dual rank 4gbit samsung e die and run at ~3800 trfc ~250-300 or 2 16gb sticks of hma82gu6djr8n dual rank 8gbit djr and run at ~3800 trfc ~500, you save abit of cash and you demolish any generic 3200-3600 xmp kit though even with a commonly available oc profile you still need to manually set timings volts and stresstest for a few hours which is abit tedious

^^^

This is about the best you can get new which is pretty good for being new but obviously a used 5600(x) and 6800/3080 would still be better

You could just insert a used 5600x and a used 6800/3080 right into this list though, used cpus are risk free as long as theres no physical damage and gpus are usually safe as long as you watch out for the scammers selling broken cards, alot less hassle since you dont need to buy a used board and a used psu

Any specific reason?  The 6700xt is gonna theit in literally every single game.  I would not recommend buying an intel GPU simply for the novelty of it.  This is a practical thing to achieve and end of playing games well.  You can look at the framerate each gpu achieves in any game, it’s overwhelming.  It’s not your job to shop charitably.  Intel has plenty of cash, they can make a better GPU.  Charitable shopping is such a small portion of the market anyway that it’ll never represent anywhere near enough data to influence a business decision.  Charitable shopping is actually bad for a lot of reasons (and I don’t mean shopping normally with charitable businesses, I mean shopping somewhere out of sympathy to support them for a reason other than giving you the beat product for your money), but more on that another time.

Oh, ok.  Nevermind then.  Recently that had seemed the only reason people had wanted to buy the arc GPUs, as the 6600 was performing about the same or faster for a lot less and with way better driver support.
