Budget (including currency): £2000 GBP roughly thought this is slightly flexible

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Rocket League, Destiny 2, BG3, Fortnite as well as some basic game dev and other development

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Looking to build a PC later this year as I am going back into education to start a degree in software engineering. As I have not owned a PC in nearly 15 years, I was hoping for a sanity check/any tips that might be helpful. I don't have anything currently so will need everything new. Planning to forgo a monitor at first as I have an LG C1 OLED 65" which can be used for the first few months.

Basic specs I have been looking at:

CPU: Intel 15-13600K

Mobo: Will decide at the time, probably B760, will decide exact model based on pricing at the time

Memory: 32GB DDR5 6400MT+, looking for CL 36 or below

Cooling: Noctua NH-D15

Storage: 2TB Gen 4.0 M.2, have a Crucial P5 in my PS5 so something similar

Case: Fractal Design North TG Black

GPU: RTX 4080 Super

Power Supply: 1000W GOLD, been looking at seasonic and corsair

Will be looking to game at 1440p mostly but some games will be played in 4K on the TV. Monitor selection will depend on pricing at the time of purchase but currently looking at the new 27" 360Hz OLED from alienware which is only 1440p but should be excellent for pretty much any use case.

Any advice or anything would be much appreciated.

Hello... Looking over your list it looks quite good, however I did have to make some changes.

1. If you are going to be doing anything more than just Gaming then I suggest a Core i7. It will give you the power you need to Play your Games and do your Development at the same time without the CPU running into any issues. Plus more Cores and Threads will help also.

2. The Noctua NH-D15 "WAS" the best Cooler. There are several other options now that are just as good for a much lower price. Plus the NH-D15 does not come with the new LGA 1700 Mounting Bracket for the Motherboard. I added a Cooler that performs just as good if not better in some ways for 2/3 less in price. The Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE is so good that it would be a Sin not to use it. Even though this Cooler is one of the best Air Coolers I still would recommend a 360mm AIO like the Thermalright Frozen Notte 360 Black ARGB.

3. I don't think you should be getting the Fractal Design North Case. For it's price it's just not worth it. There are plenty of other Cases that are much better that offer high Airflow and also have lots of Fans. The Case this I picked has 4 ARGB Fans in it and has a Digital Readout for CPU & GPU Temps and Speeds.

4. I added a CPU Thermal Block. Since the Intel 13th & 14th Gen CPUs get really hot the Block will help lower your CPU Temps from anywhere from 10-25 Degrees.

If you have any questions please let me know. I would also like to know what you think of my List.

C32 for 6400, C30/28 for lower speed. But yeah beyond that everything is on the money, look into @Why_Me build.

You also might wanna eye on the locked 14700 thatll drop anytime soon. Thatll be a good drop in pre purchase upgrade and most B760 board that is good for the 13700 should be good on that CPU too.

Thanks guys, 13700K/14700 might be a better shout for the extra cores.

I was mainly looking to stay air cooled due to potential reliability concerns with AIO coolers but if anyone has any real experience they could share it would be much appreciated.

As for the case, the choice was made mainly as I love the design of the Fractal North while it might not be the most optimal. Obviously I would change this if I found I had a real need but from some research there have been others running a similar config in the North with no issues so far.

Would you recommend a reseller key for Windows? Is there any downside to a resold key other than it being single use?
