Gaming Laptop

I will be moving around on vacation a lot more this year and have the money to spend on a gaming laptop (I need power as I edit vids). However this will also become the system I used everyday. Is it even worth getting a gaming laptop as I have heard issues with them getting slow very fast. Just thought I'd ask for some technical advice before I go ahead with the purchase.
