I have a computer to troubleshoot. As the title say, I does not POST (as far as I can tell, it does not even start to perform the tests).

I have checked the pinned "Readme: How to respond to a no POST or no power up situation" post, but that did not solve my issue.

This system worked before, then I started getting random crashes (on Ubuntu - where nothing is able to respond), requiring a reboot. I suspected the power supply (thinking that it may sometimes cause a brown-out), and switched it out for a different power supply; yet it still crashed (but was able to turn on completely multiple times). After the last crash, I turned it off and left it till now, and now it does not even want to start up at all.

The system:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte A520M DS3H V2
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
    • Cooler is Noctua NH-U96 (I had one laying around)
  • RAM: 2x XPG DDR4-3200 16GB DIMMs
  • Graphics: Asus Nvidia Geforce GT 710 (passive cooled)
  • PSU: Huntkey 450W Bronze (Yes, I know, it is not as good as others, but was on limited budget)
    • My measurements for power draw, during the gaming, was at 120W (draw from the wall)
  • Storage:
    • 1x M.2 NVMe drive (250GB)
    • 1x SATA SSD (120GB)

This computer is running headless as a server on the network (thus no need for advanced graphics); performing a couple of monitoring tasks, and sometimes hosting a game server (thus the advanced CPU and lots of RAM).

I have the buzzer connected, but it does not make any sound when powering up (I double checked the polarity, and previously it did make sounds).

I have re-seated the RAM, GPU and power cables; no success.

When I attempt to power the system, there is a slight sound from PSU (which I associate with a computer getting power), and the fans of the system start spinning (not at their full speed) - they continue to spin until I remove power (switching PSU off, or removing its power cable). When I try to use the Power Switch and hold it in, the Power LED starts blinking, but nothing happens (releasing also nothing happens).

I have access to a FLiR camera, and checked the motherboard; I found the following hotspots (ambient is ~30C):

  • VRMs - they immediately starts heating up, and reach about 50C - thus they are getting power
  • The VRM right by the RAM slots (also heat up, but only to about 40C)
  • The chipset also heats up, but around 45C
  • The n a couple of other ICs on the motherboard also heat up (~40C):
    • Mosfets, Fan drivers etc

With this I found nothing that looks out of place (like a cap that is shorted etc).

In order to further debug, I removed that RAM sticks, to try to force a Beep code (as this motherboard has no LED indications at all); but it seems to never reach the point where it checks the RAM.

How can I troubleshoot further or should I try to RMA the motherboard?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That is a negative on the lights - there are noindicators.

The buzzer/speaker I mentioned is the one that connects with the power button, power led and reset button, so I believe it is the CMOS speaker - no sounds currently.
