Windows not booting from usb

Go to solution Solved by Yua,

What about just pressing Y to erase the TPM settings?

I used the Microsoft Windows installation tool to download windows onto a new sandisk 32gb usb 2.0 but when I plug it into my new pc I can only access bios, which I have to click N after spamming delete to get in. The usb shows up in the boot sequence and the bios show every part of my PC to be working. When I save and exit the bios it still doesn’t launch windows it just returns to the ami screen. I have tried all usb slots and tried 2 different usb sticks. Relevant part information and pictures of bios below.

Are you sure? It says if I have bitlocker or encryption enabled which I don’t know if I do if I click that the system will not boot without a recovery key

That's if you already have windows installed on the drive, with encryption enabled(bitlocker, etc), which you don't.

Yes, press it. Don't worry, you don't even have files on that drive to worry about losing.

I think it worked installing windows right now. THANK YOU SO MUCH IF THIS WORKS. So doing that didn’t get rid of any security on pc or anything right?

Nope, fTPM is a feature that's served by the CPU. Because it changed, it was giving you a warning that if you had encrypted data using the security keys, you would lose access to it.

Why was it showing that warning? I'm not sure, probably after a factory checkup.

You can still use Bitlocker in the future if you want to, and no functionality was lost.

Qoute my reply if you want me to answer back.

No, it will do that whenever you update the bios. It's only ever a problem if you have bitlocker enabled in windows. If you pressed y to reset the tpm, it should be enabled. I believe you can make sure it's enabled in the bios as well.

Are you sure? Bios shouldn't affect TPM at all, not the real one since its not stored on the same memory chip, and not fTPM because it uses the CPU.

bios updates usually include an update to the ftpm, I've had to reset it on mine after every bios update as well. Even if it doesn't say there is one, it's still a good idea to disable bitlocker, just in case.

Here's what the latest bios update for my motherboard looks like.Screenshot2023-12-06210500.thumb.png.bf00961493fc95290a6bc8fcf6519bc7.png

I'm still unsure if the backup is just because it is always recommended for security or if it is mandatory.

Sure, I'll accept that you are correct. Thanks for enlightening me a little.

BTW, @MaxFlow all this rambling means nothing to you unless you activate Bitlocker; if you don't, don't worry about this.
