Just for context I have a ryzen 5 2600

So I bought 16gb of 3600 ddr4 as an upgrade to the 2666 stuff that I originally bought for the PC. Didn't realise that cpus had maximum ram speed and obviously 3600 wasn't working. I'm currently trying to get the maximum speed but I'm clearly doing something wrong in the bios because whenever I boot by manually selecting a ram speed I don't get any output. I've reset my CMOS so everything is working now but id like to make the most of my ram and at least get back to 2666 but I can't figure out how to do that

Set the timings to 2666. It is in the bios under the memory section. Your motherboard manual also explains the bios functions.

(Edit) Setting the xmp profile should not give you issues either.

so did you enable xmp for the ram first before manual settings?

try adjusting the dram voltage to 1.35 just incase the board is not supplying the needed volts properly

I Was enabling an xmp profile then selecting a ram speed can't remember the exact speed but it was around 2900. I've currently got 2666 working no xmp so at least I'm where I started

This is wrong. I ran 3200 MHZ on a Ryzen 5 2600. I am not sure if you would be able to push it to 3600 but I know 3200 worked on that PC I had.

Try just turning XMP on and not modifying any other settings. If this doesn't work keep adjusting timings and speed until you get it to work. I expect no less than 3200 MHZ as possible max speed.

I only suggested how to go back to 2666 (Manually) because that is what the OP asked on how to go back to it in his last sentence.

I did state "Setting the xmp profile should not give you issues either" as an alternative option. In that running the xmp profile should be fine. (Even if the OP is not using 2666). I do not know which xmp profiles he has listed in their bios.

Your response was "Try just turning XMP on and not modifying any other settings" which appears that you are agreeing with me. Sigh.
