The power supply did come with a 12 pin to dual 6+2 pcie pin cable. Can I use this cable for 2 of my 8 pin sockets on the GPU?

You can either plug 12VHPWR-PCIe cable for two slots of the RX 7900 XTX and additional one regular PCIe-PCIe for the third slots

OR . . .

Plug all 3 GPU slots from PCIe-PCIe and only 1 slot for the CPU. By the way, does your GPU PCIe cable has 'pig tail' (branching into 2 PCIe plugs)?

I am building my first pc and I'm not sure what to do.

I have a 7800x3d, msi b650 board, MSI mpg a1000g power supply, and a 7900xtx nitro GPU.

The board has 2 spots for 8 pin cpu power, the card has 3. I know they are different cables but they all connect at the supply in the same sockets. There's only 4 of those sockets.

The power supply did come with a 12 pin to dual 6+2 pcie pin cable. Can I use this cable for 2 of my 8 pin sockets on the GPU?

My PCIe cable does. It came with a 12pin to 12pin, a 12p to dual 6+2, and 2, 8p to 8p(6+2) cables with a pigtail 8p cable on each.

Noted, it seems that pigtail 8p (6+2) is an industry standard these days

Anyway, you can pick any slots you want to power the GPU, either by mixing 12V2x6 and 'CPU & PCIe' slots on the PSU slots or using 2 pcs of PCIe cable with pigtail (which leads to one PCIe pigtail cable dangling around)

Additional tech tips, Ryzen 7800X3D doesn't necessarily require 2 power slots plugged to the motherboard, as this CPU is really hard to overclock. But if you can fill all of the slots, why not

I doubt I'll ever overclock it but might as well plug it in since I have the space and cables. I think for now I'll use the 12 volt split cable for two of the sockets on the GPU and then use one of the regular ones with a dangling pigtail and order a nice custom one to slip in there.

I did have one more question that maybe you could help with. I got an m.2 stick for the OS made by predator. On top of the stick is a foam pad which I assume is the thermal pad, but it has a predator sticker on top of that and if you peel the corner of it it does peel away and it's sticky. Should I peel that top label off to expose the sticky pad so it will stick to the bottom side of the little heat sink that bolts over the top of it or should I just leave it alone? The instructions don't say anything about it.

Thank you again

That could work as well

No, I wouldn't peel it

It seems that this NVME storage either Acer Predator make a pre-built PC or it's a donor part from unused laptop?

Basically, that 'sticker' you're trying to peel is the heat spreader

(I never knew Acer predator produce NVME storage, I'm learning something new today)

It functions as (you guess it) spreading the heat generated from the memory chip to across the whole storage in 2280 form factor for quicker dissipation to prevent a hot spot.

Most motherboard nowadays have heatsink for NVME, could you share the detail type of your B650 MSI motherboard?

After checking on some random MSI B650 board (I found MORTAR lineup as example), MSI called the heatsink 'M.2 Shield Frozr'

So that Shield Frozr should be placed on top of your NVME to keep it cool (-er) figuratively and literally

The board I have is the tomahawk. The memory has the foam pad stuck to it. On top of the foam pad is a sticker, the name label you see in the picture. That label can be peeled off to expose a sticky surface, not peeling the foam off the stick itself. Like if you had 3m foam and you peeled the backing off to stick it to something.

On the bottom of the heatsink cover for the board it does have the thermal pad as well. The cover will not fit on with both pads in place.

I have 3 choices. Peel the pad off the underside of the heatsink. Peel the pad off the memory. 3rd, peel the pad off the heatsink and peel the sticker on the memory pad so it sticks to the underside of the heatsink when I put it on.

I hope that makes sense.

That's what she said (sorry for the bad jokes)

But I never thought that it wouldn't fit because of the Predator sticker (it is just a 'sticker', no matter how thick it would be)

Probably this is the only solution if the heatsink (Shied Frozr) doesn't fit

Well, it's still possible to remove the sticker, and you can clean up the sticky residue by using isopropyl alcohol lightly on a cotton bud. I would also suggest doing so by removing the NVME from the motherboard, to prevent some unwanted potential problem.

Please don't, it is way much better than the thin slice of sticker.

Please don't do that as well, as that would makes no direct contact of the memory to the heatsink. It's almost like attaching CPU cooler to the CPU without thermal paste. which leads to minimum contact of heat transfer.
