  1. 1. I'm stuggling to decide what PSU i should buy for my build and IDK how relevant is ATX 3.0

Hi, I'm trying to pick a PSU for my build but I'm unsure if I should go for an 850W atx 3.0 or a 1000w non 3.0, the prices are really close and currently I don't need more than 850 but in the future I might so idk what to pick

Well, I suggest it depends on the GPU that you use

If you're using mid-high end NVIDIA RTX 40x0 series, especially 4070TI or 4080, then grab 850W ATX 3.0

Otherwise, if you really don't want to use NVIDIA GPU in current and future state, then there's no advantage doing so

Plus, most NVIDIA GPU comes with 12VHPWR adapter cable anyway, so it doesn't really matter if the PSU support ATX 3.0 slot or not

It would help if you said which PSUs they are and what your future plans were.

There are still plenty of decent old PSUs at good prices, especially if you're using AMD, as mentioned above.

I think I'd rather choose 850W ATX3.0 than 1000W non ATX3.0 cause you know...if you're going to purchase 1000W then one of the reason is to leave some space for future upgrade. Usually 1000W you can pair with the top GPUs out there. So if this is a non ATX3.0 I don't really see why you need this since you said that you don't need more than 850W currently. (And actually 850W can be used in most builds)

850w ATX3.0 has a high frequent OCP of 200%(1700w) while a 1000w ATX2.4 has a high frequent OCP of 130% (1300w). The ATX3.0 unit can handle powerspikes a lot better. So for the future the ATX3.0 unit is a better purchase.
