Hello,

we recently got these in at work from a retiring user, and i saw the desktop speakers and were intrigued by the desktop sitting drivers. They are Planar magnetic speakers, which I heard are usually supposed to be pretty good ( I'm not super familiar so i could be wrong). So i was thinking about using the the desktop speakers and pairing them with a newer amp. Here's where this post come in, it's got RCA cables to connect it to the amp. I need some suggestions on how I should go about getting these working. Do I get a amp that will work with it, or do i try to convert it to speaker wire by just stripping them. The stripping from what I read it might not be the best idea because of the resistance of the cables, which concerns me I don't want these to sound like garbage/ melt cables. Should I take them apart and swap it straight to speaker wire ? If anyone has experience with this I would be very appreciative!

Pic i found of them online.

That depends on how these ESLs are driven. ESLs need a very high voltage and a low current to function and normal amplifiers are low voltage and high current. There are two main ways to drive them. Both solutions are pretty costly. So most probably, thise are just planar magnetic. And from what i read on the internet, this company built some planar magnetic computer speakers.

Planar magnetic speakers can be driven by almost every normal amplifier, so you won`t have problems there.

You can either strip the cables or you just get the other side of the cinch connector and make your own cable.

Great info, I'm excited to give these a second life. I'll see if I can strip them and get them added to some kind of sub amp combo unite.

Does the amp in the sub still work? If it does, its best to just use that one, because there is crossover in there thats specially made for these speakers. Getting another subwoofer to work with them well will take quite a bit of tinkering. If you really want to replace it, geht one with a DSP, so you can tune it to work better together with these speakers.

I did, but i threw it away since they are prone to failure and horrible base quality. I will keep my eye out for one with DSP, I know I found a forum post with someone who spent like 300$ on refreshing them with amps and what not. I'm hoping not to go so hard for mine lol.
