Advice for gpu upgrade on current setup

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

The image shows my current rig. I got it prebuilt a couple years ago and with the new Ark coming out, and just better frames and qualities in my others games, I'm looking to upgrade the gpu. I was initially wanting a 4070 ti but wasn't sure if that was compatible with my current set up so any advice on that would be great. I'm wanting to play with high to epic settings while also easily getting over 60 frames or so. Am I able to get the 4070 ti and have it work? If not, can I either upgrade another part(s) to make it work? If that'd be too expensive at that point or even overkill, does anyone know another solid gpu option that would work with my current set up? Thank you thank you.

Are you playing on 1080p or 1440p?

 

The 3700X is barely able to feed the 2070Super on 1080p, with a stronger GPU without a CPU upgrade you'd have a worse experience.

The 4070Ti would be severely bottlenecked on 1080p and quite a bit on 1440p.

I mainly play 1440. havent had much of an issue with the games ive been playing.

With 1440p it's easier on the CPU; so I'd say a 5700X would work and a 5800X3D would be ideal, and paired with a Radeon 6800XT, 7800XT, or an RTX 4070 Super (supposedly arrives soon).

The 5800X3D needs a strong cooler, probably stronger than the one you have on the 3700X. The 5700X doesn't need a stronger cooler.

 

For changing the GPU, you'd need a stronger PSU. Based on the GPU choice, a good quality 750-850W would do more than fine.

The 5700X is a cheaper 5800X with a lower power draw and lower heat production - it runs on a lower voltage with a bit lower clock but the performance is nearly identical.

 

The 5800X3D has a lot more L3 cache and many games profit from that a lot, usually a 10% to 20% performance increase compared to a 5700X/5800X with much smoother frame times (way less framerate variations). It's the strongest Am4 CPU for gaming.

 

There's no 6800X, only 6800 and 6800XT. Both are quite good and decent upgrade options. The new 7700XT compares to the 6800 and the 7800XT is a bit above a 6800XT.

 

Also, you need to flash the latest Bios for your motherboard if you haven't already.

Got it. I will make sure to do that. I'm thinking between two different options.

1. 4070. with a 5700x and a 750W power.

or 2. 5800X3D with the 6800XT and the 750W power. 

Either of those seem better or worse? I'm kinda grouping them for budget so let me know if either don't make sense please.

If you play some competitive games (example PUBG, Apex, CS2, ...) the 5800X3D option is better. 

If it's single-player games, it's a waste of money, the 5700X is better for that since it's enough (unless Starfield).

Don't forget a better cooler for the 5800X3D if you decide on that CPU.

Got it. It's mainly the new Ark I'll be playing and sometime Minecraft with the nice shaders and stuff like that. So the 5700x would probably make more sense for me then. But I'd still probably go with the 7800 xt and the 750w power. That way I wouldn't need a new cooler too.

Yes, you do. The one you have is not just on the weaker side for the setup, it's bad quality.

 

Make sure your new PSU is on the PSU cultists Tier list somewhere in A or B.
