I am part of a research group and we are looking into building a server. On the one hand it would be used to run ROS2 (https://docs.ros.org/en/humble/) nodes and on the other hand it would be used to do some data science. So some (light) machine learning, optimization and point cloud calculations in Python and Matlab. It would be nice if a couple of people, lets say 5, could do light work like programming or executing command line tools simultaneously. We are thinking more in the direction of consumer and prosumer products instead of full enterprise as we believe that to be overkill for what we are doing.

Could you give some general recommendations for such a project? Any help is appreciated!

Budget (including currency): Very flexibel. We are trying to spent what is necessary for our purpose. I would say 5,000-20,000 €

Country: Austria, Europe

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Ubuntu 22, ROS2, Python, Matlab, Tensorflow

Yes, I was thinking of a 7950X3D or perhaps maybe two in a dual socket motherboard? And maybe an RTX 3070 or two?

I don't think there are any dual socket motherboards for Ryzen 7000 or Intel 13th gen desktop CPU.

A place to start if a single socket will do. Either platform should meet needs. Both should offer similar performance. Intel 14th gen, due in about 2 weeks may change this.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
