Wondering if anyone here has a similar setup. Been playing days lately (not very optimized) and getting only 10fps in most places. Was running xfire 7970s last week and getting over double the framrates. Thinking I might get rid of the 290xs or just try using a single card.

Haven't tried any other game yet as I just got it set up today. I am hoping this is only an issue for dayz. Bought the cards mostly for star citizen.

Are you noticing any similar issues with other games?

Run a few benchmarks

Try disabling Crossfire

Make sure drivers are up to date

Make sure your cards are properly seated

Haven't tried any other games and only benchmark I did last night was heaven which got 18k.

Disabling crossfire didn't do anything (frames did not go lower though). Going to try some optimizations through the config file later.

At least star citizen has a may 29th alpha launch date. I only hope it runs smoother then this.

Going to try metro last light when I get home.

Just for comparison, I'll run the Metro LL benchmark at 1920x1200, maxed out setting, including SSAA but no nVidia PhysX (obviously), will post a screenshot of my result and you can have an idea where yours should be.

Edit: Here's my result, GPU's mildly OC'ed at 1090/1350, Cat 14.4 RC1

Tried to bench LL before I went to work and only got something like 70fps max. I also used your OC but on 1.3v since 1.2v was causing some instability. Thanks for the bench results gamer dude since it gives me something to try and match.

I am using accelero ivs for cooling the cards which make them triple slots so I cannot use two 16x pcie3 lanes which I am wondering if this is simply saturating my results. I am going to try some more tweaks later (didn't switch cards to Uber bios yet and didn't mess with catalyst control for temperature settings which also might be messing me up).

Haven't had much time to try anything else out yet since I volunteered for overtime hours and get to work 64 hours this week. Hopefully I can figure this out eventually or I will probably just sell the cards and go back to 7970s which I was having more luck with.

I did notice crossfire wasn't working in dayz unless I set up a profile for arma2 but this caused yellow flickering making it unplayable.

So, things to try once I am home :

Different bios settings

Switch catalyst control settings for power and temperature.

Remove accelero coolers to use two pcie3x16 lanes (currently on 16/8).

Ontario, not to close. I'm also wondering if maybe my 2500k is becoming a bottleneck. It also can't use pcie3 from what I am reading so I might possibly have to go haswell for better gpu performance.

So much crap going on :(

Friend of mine is looking to upgrade so maybe I could just get a haswell and give him my 2500k. If only I knew somebody who could get a 4770k from intel retail edge.

International shipping is pretty reasonable these days ;)

Got it mostly running fine now. Ran metro benchmark at 1200p and 1440p. Still a bit lower then yours even with an overclock gamerdude but it isn't as bad as it was the other day.

I still can't get crossfire to work without yellow flickering in dayz now but I am still getting decent frames on a single card. I am not quite sure why it was so bad the other day but it seems better now. I reseated everything so I am guessing it might have just been that (hard to install these cards with the coolers on).

Something's a little off with your benchmark run, your min framerate is bad......look at your graph, you have numerous dips in framerate, that'd result in rather choppy gameplay The black portion in your graph, the difference in highs and lows I think, fluctuates greatly. . What driver are you using? What mobo are you using? Could you please list your system spec, including OS? My mobo is the Rampage IV Extreme which, at the time of release did not officially support PCIe 3.0 X16 since there was a distinct lack of PCIe 3.0 cards at the time, but it does.....GPUZ shows both my cards doing PCIe 3.0 @ X16.

Ohy, also from Ontario. May have a solution for ya!

I just ran into the same issue regarding lower than normal frames with the r9 290's along with the yellow flicker while in a CF configuration. I could not find a solution until I altered CCC's Application profile for DayZ. I now have both of my 290's firing and giving me a smoother 45-60 FPS on all ultra settings in DayZ WITHOUT the yellow flicker.

Under the application profile section for DayZ, select a custom crossfire profile but DO NOT SELECT the Arma2OADemo profile! Instead, choose the Crysis3 profile from the list and give it a go. I also left frame pacing enabled.

Hopefully you haven't let those 290X's go yet. This just may work for you, as it has for me!
