Upgraded GPU, now BSOD when running games/rendering

Go to solution Solved by Dedayog,

Short of reinstalling Windows and your apps, you can't rule out Software until you do.

I'd return it.  It should work without any issue whatsoever.  That's my view, I wouldn't waste time trying ot fix it.  What if it has issues next week?  Next month?  Get ahead of it and kick it back to the seller.

Hi all, long time ltt sub but first time poster so please bear with me if I forget to put any relevant information.

I upgraded my PC from 3060Ti to 3090, ran Furmark without an issue for 20 minutes but it crashes without fail when gaming and rendering in unreal engine 5 (I have tried sea of thieves and cyberpunk, both crashes almost immediately). I have reinstalled the latest game ready driver from Nvidia (537.42) and ran Windows Update to see if that fixes the issue (Windows 11 Pro 22621.2361)

I am worried that its a bad gpu as I got it from eBay, but would like to try and fix it first before returning it

Many thanks

All of the dump files blame the Nvidia driver. Run DDU to clean out the old GPU driver before downloading and installing a fresh one. Most of the crashes were when allocating space in the memory pool so it's very possible it's a driver issue.

You are right, and I know the logical answer is to just return it. I find it weird however as the seller is reputable and it was owned by a computer shop so to get BSOD now is out of place and I am more curious about that (especially as the return window is still open)

Try the DDU suggested above.  It may be a memory thing, worth a shot.  Not going to hold my breath though.

So unfortunately I followed your guide twice and it still causes the same issue, first time round it didn’t crash ending in BSOD but the system couldn’t recognise any NVIDIA device, second time round it resulted back in BSOD

Then the GPU is the most likely cause. If you are using a PCIe riser then try without it.
