Okay then when I upgrade to a 780 should i get a 1440p or a 21:9

Personal preference really. If you want to have another monitor go with 1440p. If you want to fit everything on one monitor go with 21:9.

Also keep in mind that there will be strange black bars on the side when you watch youtube videos and netflix with the 21:9.

Depends what else you'll be doing.

I'm personally planning to get a 21:9 monitor over a 1440p one at the end of Summer, before Uni resumes for a few reasons, in no particular order:

  1. 1440p would require more powerful hardware to game on that I can't afford
  2. I'm short sighted and small text on a 1080p monitor I struggle with already
  3. Writing essays - journal articles on one side/Microsoft word on the other
  4. The main 21:9 contenders all have extremely nice screens in terms of colour accuracy and contrast.
  5. The slightly wider FOV in games will add to the immersion I think.
