Problems with running/starting games.

Go to solution Solved by H3nnie,

It seems that if I underclock my GPU using MSI Afterburner, there are no crashes anymore. And as BFCGK recommended, downloading MSVCP120.dll worked for my Battlefield 4 (trouble shooting is a bit of a pain since you have to keep on trying to run BF4, which persist after downloading the dll but that's just a BF4 thing).

I'm not sure what is causing the game crash issue, would my PSU not be able to supply enough power, or is the GPU too powerful for a game like Battlebit (though I doubt it)?

I'm having problem with running and starting games.

Games like Battlebit crash after a few minutes of being in a server, and Battlefield 4 does not start at all. I don't have problems with any other applications or programs except perhaps Steam and/or EA's app that might have something to do with it. Games like Synthetik and Ultrakill run fine though.

I have a new desktop with a fresh install of Win 10 x64.

My specs are:

  • Ryzen 5 7000x
  • MSI B650 WiFi Motherboard
  • GTX 980
  • 650W PSU, MSI
  • 16 Gb RAM Corsair Vengence
  • 1 TB SSD

All drivers and necessary software are up to date and there is no problem with cooling.

There might be a problem with the Anti-cheat software, it seems to behave strangely like not generating files I see in other troubleshooting resources, but all my attempts to reinstall/repair failed. With BF4 specifically Steam gets stuck in a loop of installing PnkBuster, even though I've already installed it, and when it isn't in the loop it keeps trying to launch the EA app which instantly closes and fails to launch the game. With Battlebit the game launches normally but then after max 10 min in game it sounds like the GPU disconnects from the monitor and then crashes. When I try to run (as admin) Easy Anti-cheat setup it instantly crashes. Team Fortress had some weird behavior too, but not nearly as severe: after about 30 min in game the GPU disconnected momentarily and then reconnected and everything was fine.

Is there perhaps a network setting on Win that I haven't checked or is the problem more expansive? Are these problems related to each other?

It will most likely be EA's garbage anti-cheat, the most common fix for this is to enable secure boot in your bios.

Secure boot is enabled. I'll add this error when booting BF4 to the list:

I have reinstalled and verified all parties.

This means you have a missing file.

You will have to find a trustworthy site online, download the file and find a tutorial to put the file in a certain location.

Thanks, that fixed BF4, but I still get crashes in Battlebit.
