Budget (including currency): 200-400$ CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Baldur's Gate 3

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hi all,
With the coming release of Baldur's Gate 3, I'm looking to upgrade my build. I'm assuming / expecting the GPU to be the main focus point.

Only have a 60Hz monitor so I am aiming for 1080p 60FPS, however being able to get up to 4k 60fps would be nice!

Below are my specs!

GPU: GTX 970 (Currently looking at the RX 6650 XT due to price, and comparing it to the rtx 3060)
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
Ram: 16gb ddr4 3200mhz
Motherboard: B450 m
ower supply: 750W (My PSU is getting fairly old @ around 10 years old)

Apart from the GPU, are the existing parts adequate?

I would recommend upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 5 5600 or the Ryzen 7 5700X. Those are fairly cheap but a vast upgrade over the 2600.

You just need the newest motherboard BIOS and those are compatible.

So my suggestion to you is perhaps get a  GTX 1660 Super which will run you about 170-180 ish Link is provided-https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Overclocked-Phoenix-Graphics-PH-GTX1660S-O6G/dp/B088VLLX6D/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=GTX+1660+Asus&qid=1690490846&sr=8-4 Another upgrade i could possibly recommend is upgrade to 32 GB of memory your CPU is good and you may need a new PSU depending on your wattage currently but that's about all i can say about this.

This is a decent upgrade but if you look at the budget he could possibly need to switch to a new motherboard entirely But yes i can agree the 2600 is a very underpowered chip.

GPU prices in Canada are kinda wild, For the same price as the 1660 super, I can get a 3060 (350-400CAD).

I'll to look into this! I don't feel like my CPU has ever been a bottle neck, but definitely appreciate the suggestion@
