Windows Security hangs on start

Since the June update my nephews PC is having issues with Windows Security. Basically when we try to go into to it, the app hangs (the window opens with the windows security text/logo then stay there). I have had a look online through several forums and followed the steps outlined in this post to no avail. I was hoping the LTT community could once again come to my rescue and  help me fix the issue.
