I have a WDBlack Sn850 as my main boot drive that has all my games. I’ve heard that SSD prices have dropped a ton so what SSD is the best as a secondary drive?

i might get a sata ssd with a dram cache. Maybe something like the mx500 Crucial MX500 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive (CT1000MX500SSD1) - PCPartPicker

Or even a 970 evo plus if you have an extra m.2 slot (though you might want to save it) Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (MZ-V7S1T0B/AM) - PCPartPicker

Just know you will need a sata data cable

What do you mean by secondry? Do you mean archiving? Or do you need another NVMe drive for more games and apps?

For archiving I would go with the Silicon Power 2TB SSD at $65

As for another NVMe drive you just can't beat the WD_Black SN850X price to performance, a 1TB one goes for $79 and a 2TB one for $153

the difference between gen 4 and gen 3 can be negligible. So a 970 evo plus might be better for the money. or a sata one. And if they really want gen 4 the 980 pro is also there which i really recommend as it's price is pretty good now

Mainly for gaming as I already have a archive hhd

I would just get a sata ssd for that... Something cheap from Teamgroup, the micron brands (Lexar, Curtail), Patriot or what ever else is cheap (and has at least slc cache)

Ok then either the WD Black SN850x or the 980 pro will do. I would also suggest you look into that Silicon Power 2TB that I've mentioned to replace your HHD if you have the cash. Your rig will be a lot quiter without that spinning disk.

For gaming, really any SSD will get you the vast majority of the performance of any other SSD. The difference between a fast Gen 4 drive and a DRAM-less SATA one is actually not that big.

If you just want a ton of games storage, I'd recommend a cheap 2TB SATA drive.
