First Potential Build

Go to solution Solved by Why_Me,

Try this. A case with much better airflow that doesn't require a 3-pk of fans, a better gaming cpu and runs on par with the 7900X in regards to productivity. Dual tower ARGB cooler and low profile RAM so it doesn't impede said cooler.

Budget (including currency): 3k CAD +/- 200 CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, Coding (Web Development), Multimedia consumption.

Parts:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 4.7 GHz 12-Core Processor

CPU COOLER: DeepCool LT720 85.85 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard

Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory

Storage: Western Digital Black SN850X 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

GPU: XFX Speedster MERC 310 Black Edition Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card

CASE: HYTE Y40 ATX Mid Tower Case

PSU: Corsair RM850e (2023) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

My main questions revolve around ways to cut cost. The main thing I’m considering changing is the CPU. Would the Ryzen 7 7700x be sufficient, and could I go with a more affordable fan and heat sink for that or the Ryzen 9 7900x?

I reaaaaly love the case, memory, and storage so don’t recall want to change those if i can avoid that.

I could be willing to switch to a 7900xt gpa but that also is a last resort.

Also ofc any other suggestions for this build would be appreciated.

I would like to game at a high refresh rate (144hz+) at 1440p comfortably for a few years with this rig. I usually play high fidelity games with graphics cranked up because I like the PRETTY STUFF.

Thank you!

That case requires a three pack of fans which is going to up the cost.

This seems awesome!

What a quick response too with all the links. Thank you so much

I agree the 3 pack fan coolers is adding a lot and i was worried about that.

I am a bit paranoid tho about going with an F variant of intel cpu in case of a gpa crash or something. Is that something i should realistically worry about or am i just being over paranoid ?

Definitely more cost effective. But i am a sucker for really good RAM speeds and SSD read n write speeds 😞

Appreciate the help!

Then go for @Why_Me RAM and Motherboard combo in this build. I largely agreed with his build on that.

In terms of SSD write and read though im not fully up to chop on that. MP600 by Corsair is quite good at that but i didnt went for it because being on 4.0 is already pretty beneficial if you dont go for 100% capacity read/write speed.

That’s fair. I feel like i am being a bit to overboard with the SSD considering i have had horrible laptop SSDs so far. And i can always upgrade down the line.

Thanks again ❤️

If you really wanted to pimp out that case I posted you can do this. Mind you those 160mm front intake fans have dual ARGB ... the fans and the rings around the fans. Like total light show epileptic seizure style.  You can control both separately.

This controller fits on front bottom left of that case.

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00124439

Lian Li LAN216-1 ARGB Control & USB Module $21.99

Put these fans on the top of that case where an AIO would normally go. These fans also have dual ARGB.  JayZ2cents did a review on them a few months back and they are insane. The only bummer is they are out of stock atm but when they come back in stock they're an easy add on. You might even find them on ebay.

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/YsGnTW/lian-li-uni-sl120-5854-cfm-120-mm-fans-3-pack-uf-sl120-3b

Lian Li UNI SL120 120mm Fans 3-Pack $109.99

This vid doesn't do that case justice ... there's an Irish youtuber ... Christopher Flannigan who goes through all the trippy stuff that case can do with that controller in regards to an ARGB light show.

Sorry for late reply. Time zones be wild in Middle East.

You go above and beyond what i expected here so thank you for that.

Another question. Thoughts on the fractal north case? https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_1937&item_id=233171&language=en

I love the classy look of it and it seems reasonable in relation to the fans and stuff.

I've seen nothing but good reviews on the Fractal North.
