So I currently have a 3050 which I use to game on and watch YT and all that but I want thinking about getting a new GPU. I looked at the 6950 xt and the 4070, I don’t know which one would be worth it for the money, I have a 5700G as a CPU

6950XT is better than the 4070, unless you're an RT lover.

If this is on 1080p id go and sell this because this still has resale value, and get a 5600 or 5800X3D before you go for the GPU. The CPU is from last generation Zen 2 and would be a big bottleneck for either of this GPUs in 1080p. 6950XT would be my vote between the 2 but if you have to go down to 6900XT or even 6800XT to get either CPU.

I have a 7900XTX on 7700K. No bottle neck. that 5700G is still working so why upgrade for 1080p. They will get triple digit FPS anyway. 6950XT is a solid investment. It will be good for a CPU upgrade too.

With the 4070, imho they will be throwing away money which is best saved for a better CPU. Which also would need a new Mobo and memory.

Resolution and games? Thats insane when @Dukesilver27- got a CPU bottleneck with a 5600 and 6800XT combo at 1440p, but admittedly that is in Spider Man which are quite CPU bounded in NPC generation. And i personally used R5 2600 and that thing is CPU bottlenecked at 1080p with 1660Ti in BF2042 which are a GPU bounded title.

even rt isnt that bad im seeing roughly 50-60 fps at 1440p cyberpunk everything to ultra with fsr set to quality.

and im running a somewhat bad cpu to have it paired with. its still playable. pretty good even.

4K and mix of games ranging from 2015 to this day. Only difference is asset loading times, in CPU bound titles is just a small stutter. Not a comp player, so dont care.

There is no way a 7700K does not bottleneck a 7900XTX even in 4K ultra settings, some games definitely have bottleneck, either you don't play CPU intensive games at all or you don't understand bottleneck.

Spider-man Remastered (with RT), CP2077, TLOU (disregarding terrible optimization), TW3 DX12 with RT are CPU intensive games, I have an i5-12400 with 6800 XT, regardless in 4K or 1440p, my GPU cannot reach 100% utilization because my CPU is pegged at 80-100% usage.

7700K which is a lot slower than 12400 cannot possibly keep up with 7900 XTX which is a lot faster than 6800 XT.

And in this case, stuttering means bottleneck.

First I've heard anyone say the 12400 is faster than the 7700x.

Wasnt the 7700x arguably AMD's best gaming cpu prior to the x3d?

Im not saying there are no bottlenecks, just its not as bad as people make out to be.

Besides, one good topic on this forum would be a definitive CPU bound games. Looked at plenty of threads over the few months, very few have a definitive answers WHICH titles are CPU bound. Most just say "yeah, you bottle necked". Would eliminate a good chunk of repetitive threads asking if they are bottlenecking or not. They can always refer to the minimum/recommended hardware from the game itself.

W3 DX12 with RT has issues in Novigrad, I will give you that. But thats a performance loss I can live with since rest of the areas are fine. I can imagine in CP2077 the 7700K would be quite bad indeed.
Also, in some old games from 2015, there are areas that are STILL unfixed/hitting performance, while the overall game runs good. Should I upgrade because there are some places that show bottlenecking?

with the RX7000 series we have come full circle since HD7000 series. I was low key hoping they would do homage to the first successful HD series and release like RX7950, RX7970 and RX7990 cards. Still, nice to say XFX RX 7900 XTX.

I think this bottlenecking thing is really oversold, even if there's a bottlneck of say 10fps, chances are it's something reducing your FPS from 200 to 190, oh no how bad on your average 144hz display.

Bottleneck isn't always lower fps, could be slower texture/asset loading times, stuttering/micro stutter, or unstable frame times. Different game different engines could have different effects, so no it is not oversold.
