990pro acting strange?

So initially I thought the low random writes have to be because it's my boot drive right, but the 980pro was also my boot drive and it was getting double the random writes as the 990pro. I know all the issues with the 990pro so I'm not expecting it to be anything special, but I WAS expecting it to perform slightly better than the 980pro in every aspect.. For the most part it is.. Thankfully I got this SSD for free. I've updated firmware in Samsung Magician and haven't really done anything else. Is there any firmware, driver, bios settings or something I can do to fix this or did I just get one of the crappy drives, and I'm SOL.
