Initial thread. As stated, the fixes did not help. The error has occurred twice more since posting. In that time, I have gone into network adapter settings and disabled/enabled the adapter. All three times, including the one mentioned in the previous post, corrected the connection issue. I cannot find any related issues concerning the onboard NIC and I have reverified the driver through an uninstall and reinstall. I believe this would confirm an error with the card this time, but again, I'm not a network expert. If someone can offer a secondary cause then please let me know. If not...

I have 1Gb service at the house. I need a network connection. My local options are the following. Yes, the price difference matters on my end, I live on a fixed income.

A) https://www.microcenter.com/product/408947/tp-link-gigabit-pci-express-network-adapter at $14.99
B) https://www.microcenter.com/product/665048/trendnet-25gbase-t-pcie-network-adapter-(teg-25gectx) at $29.99
C) https://www.microcenter.com/product/612949/j5create-juh474-usb-30-gigabit-ethernet-3-port-hub at $19.99

I'll admit, I have no experience with the USB option but I cannot see a reason as to why it wouldn't work. Again, I'm not knowledgeable in the networking space though so any information or corrections are welcomed.

Any advice would be appreciated, as was the suggestions offered by the previous threads forum members 🙂
Regard, Emmitt

First of all, no need to start a whole new thread for another that you created last week. Since the issue isn't resolved, just bump the old thread.

Secondly, have you requested support from your ISP during all of this? When ISPs change or they do major infrastructural works, it's not uncommon for customers to have connection issues. I wouldn't be surprised if customers who use the ISP's hardware aren't having similar problems since the ISP can roll out updates to their modems/gateways at will. Unfortunately, if you use your own modem/gateway, you might never get these updates.

I would suggest you contact them and at least ask their technical support team to check if your gateway needs to be re-authorized on the network and if there are any specific settings, especially related to DNS, that need to be changed. If that doesn't help, ask for a technician to evaluate the situation at your home.

I remember a long time ago when my cable ISP was going through a similar transition and DNS was a big issue. Apparently, they changed servers/IPs in the process which didn't propagate to me until I had to force-reboot their modem. I now prefer to use alternative DNS providers other than the ISP's.

I didn't know about the "bump". I'm not 100% on all the forum rules and didn't want to get in trouble.

The ISP was unable to identify the modem when I contacted them about the errors occuring. The modem is still authorized and no other issues similar to this have been reported or noted in the area. Which, again leads back to the question of which link in the chain is broken? Since they couldn't "see" the modem, is it that. While they were unable to see it, they were still able to send a restart command through the network to my modem. If it is the modem itself, how does disabling and reenabling my NIC fix it? When I do that, I don't reset my modem at all. As far as I know, that is.
