Hi,

I've currently got a Razer Viper Ultimate but really want to get rid of Synapse so looking to move to a different mouse and company. I want something ideally where I don't have to have the software open for lighting effects / macros (the macros will literally just be forward and back buttons), it doesn't have to be wireless but it's a positive.

I don't really play FPS games so I'm going for looks over performance (to some degree). I really do like the look of the viper ultimate V2 but like I said, sick of the software.

I had a look at the glorious model O and model O 2, not really a fan of how they look.

Any recommendations? Do custom mice exist?

Cheers!

imo glorious is a dumpster fire in terms of software. logitech has really nice mice and if your looking for minimum bloatware and decent buttons, the gpro wireless is similar to the viper with same performance

you dont need an aio for anything but i9 cpus or heavy oc jobs just get an nh-d15 or peerless assassin

MARK THE SOLUTION AS SOLUTION

Random frank p's mouse looks sick, Linus did a video on it (link). I don't know much about Razer, but cant you use the mouse without Synapse? Like with my Logitech mouse (G305, I love this mouse), you can configure it then save that config to its onboard memory, and then it will work like that even without the software. As for custom mice, all that I know in terms of looks is 3d printed mouse exteriors that people replace their mouse with.

Edit: I seems random frank p's mouse is sold out permanently. Well, as for recommendations, G305 if you don't wanna spend much or G pro wireless which is probably the closest to the viper. I love logitech mice 😀

Youre signing yourself to leave the beehive to a crocodile swamp. Glorious Core is EVEN WORSE.

If you want a dark horse in the race you can have a look at Logitech products. Theyre openly supported by openRGB and signalRGB and you can use the Logitech Onboard Memory Manager to manage your keybinds and small amount of macros.

Pulsar X2 line is very cool but then you have to deal with Nordic MCU software which can be a hit or miss in memory usage in the background if thats the reason you you wanna ditch Synapse.

Okay, definitely avoiding Glorious. I've heard too much bad stuff about them now 😄

I've had a look at the G Pro X Superlight, I really like how that looks, but I've also been recommended the Death Adder V3 Pro. If I can run that mouse without Synapse then it could be an option. What do you think?

Neither of those have RGB, but it's not a dealbreaker, I'd like to be able to disable the blue light on the superlight and the green light on the V3 Pro though if that's possible.

I had a look at Pulsar, just not a massive fan of the design.

As for running Razer without Synapse, I think the main thing for me is the RGB, and I don't know if that works on-board or with synapse 🤷‍♂️ Not a fan of the G305, but G Pro X Superlight looks really nice, considering that.

Yep, not getting Glorious.

I really like the G Pro X Superlight, looks really nice. Just deciding between that and the Death Adder V3 Pro really. Deal-breaker for me is the software, if I can run Death Adder without Synapse then I'll probably get that.

Looked at Pulsar, not a huge fan of the design.

RGB can be managed via openRGB but yeah any form of macro editing will have to be done in Synapse. Razer has no onboard memory manager-like apps AFAIK.

Okay that's good, I'd rather run OpenRGB than Synapse. And do you know what the default key bind for the two side buttons on the Death Adder are? I just want a forward and back button.

Or, would the G Pro X Superlight be better for me? I'm a programmer and a light game player (Rocket League, Phasmo, Borderlands), no FPS games really.

yup! i think logitech has better features but razer sometimes has better build quality at the cost of worse software

There's a crazy amount of conflicting opinions about both mice, probably just stemming from preference. It's making it very difficult to pick!

If you had to pick one of the two, which would you pick?

Superlight £100

DAV2 £130

If you don't include software, since I won't be using it in either case.

superlight ftw. ive been using logi mice both g and non g for most of my life with computers (like 7 years) and have never had one fail for anything other than them being my dads old daily drivers and gradually wearing out the switches but i have seen a lot of razer reviews talking about there is somewhat spotty qc which ig can apply to all companies but logi seems more consistent. ( ihave 2 logi keyboards and like 5 mice the mice are dead but were used for like 5 years each by my parents and I)

I am genuinely curious about what kind of macros and in what environment justify the resulting 3-button mouse functionality. And also you'll be just fine not having them on a new mouse? And why do you focus on fps-targeted mice if you don't play fps?

Razer Synapse isn't needed past the initial setup and configuration. It's all saved to the mouse memory.

Limited Edition Viper mini is unique and awesome.

Xtrfy MZ1 is a one-off custom design, and many swear by it.

Orochi V2 from Ali for 20$+ - a steal of a deal and a fantastic mouse.

SteelSeries Rival 3 wireless.
MX Master 3?

Got the Superlight X today and not liking it, I'm quite heavy fingered and I seem to slip off the clickers quite a lot, maybe it's a teething problem but I'm not totally sure.

Good question! I use the macros mostly for forward and back on pages, this is absolutely essential, I use it hundreds of times per day.

As for why the fps mouse, another good question! I'm a material guy, just want the best of the best really 🙂 No specific reason!

The only thing that worries me about the suggestions you gave is having the same problem as the superlight, where my fingers seem to slip off when I click them. The mouse does come with grips but I don't really like how they look on the mouse 😕 The viper has bowed clickers so my fingers fit nicely and don't slip out of place, which is probably why I like it. The Viper V2 is nice, but I haven't heard great things about it. The DeathAdder V3 Pro has similar clickers to the superlight so I don't think that'll work for me either.

Viper mini also a good option, not a massive fan of the look though, really wanting a white mouse to match the setup. Also, I've got quite big hands and I use a palm grip, so it's probably too small for me.

I really suggest giving Orochi v2 a shot. I daily drive the Basilisk Ultimate, making use of every button and HyperShift. Love it. And then I bought the Orochi out of curiosity. It was universally praised and loved by everyone. Hate small mice, never wanted one. But it was 20$ instead of 40$-60$ everywhere else.
It became my main. I still game and active browsing with Basilisk. And switch to Orochi the moment I don't need extra buttons. It isn't your usual mini mouse, but rather a proper one that was designed to be small. I have ~19cm palm this little one beats many full-sized competitors in terms of comfort. From fingertip to hybrid claw, it fits and feels great. Comes with an antibacterial textured shell that not only feels great but also denies sweaty palms.

if you want to get rid of synapse just... get rid of synapse. just stop using it. uninstall it. the viper ultimate is a perfectly good mouse, your choice to install and use synapse should not make you want to replace it. you do not need it for the mouse to work. the mouse can save your preferences. every mouse brand has crappy software or no software at all
