FN Guy here looking for some recommendations,

I built a PC last year with the hope of avoiding gaming, but my kids have been wanting a VR. I listed the parts I have via link and some of the upgrades I am considering below. The budget was constructed based off of what I have been considering and is not to include the VR setup itself.

Budget (including currency): $500-$700 (less expensive is preferred is I don't need the additional performance)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: VR gaming, 3D Modelling, Music production

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Curent parts list https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LsDrd9

I am considering doubling my ram with the same brand/model, upgrading my CPU cooler (the reviews aren't looking as good as I thought when I bought it) and purchasing an additional ssd. The matching ram is $26 each and the ssd is 86.

Because of the increased stress on the CPU I would like a better performing cooler that fits in the case.

I'm also looking at purchasing the HTC Vive Pro 2, which means I'll need to get a GPU. This has been a little difficult because of the power supply I originally opted for has a only rated for 560W. I have been looking at low TDP gpus and would love a 4070, but don't want to spend $700 for one component if it isn't necessary. I have been looking at used 3070s on ebay and have felt a little lost when looking through the range of prices/options without knowing which would be the best. If a lower model would be sufficient, I am open to something a bit older, but I would also like this to last for the next several years also.

Thank you for your time and recommendations!

You can consider going 6700xt + a faster 2x16 GB kit of ram:

PCPartPicker Part List

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL28 Memory  ($109.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: ASRock Challenger D OC Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB Video Card  ($339.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $449.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I would replace the ram kit cause it's super slow for DDR5 ram

or just all the way with a new GPU which would net you 6800XT or RTX 4070. latter would be better all around for what OP does because AMD is still a bad VR option.

A new gpu would definitely boost the build. Don't worry about the RAM or storage just yet, as you have enough of both right now. Just go for the new gpu, psu, and cpu cooler. 🙂

@GeorgeMKane With the 560W PSU, what GPU would you recommend?

A RTX 3050 or RTX 3060 would be okay, but I wouldn't expect you to be able to overclock anything other than the RAM (maybe).
