Sound coming from different device

When I boot the system the sound is coming from the speaks which is all fine, however I notice that when I got check the output device it's selected for the headset but no sound is coming from the headset.

This has cause confusion previously when getting sound from the speaks when playing games or Discord and then checking to see that the headset is instead selected. Not until do you change the output device does this issue get fixed.

 

In this screenshot, you can see the G635 Headset is the selected output, but on the left you can see the dB level is coming from the HD Audio Controller.

 

Is there something I'm doing wrong and can this be fixed?
