Dedicated streaming pc input needed

So my son wants to try streaming. Alot of people have tried streaming so please no flaming. I'm ok with him giving it a shot but I don't want to spend a ton of money on an extremely high end build that can game and stream. I will be building him a new pc for gaming so I will have an extra pc and gpu sitting here collecting dust. I want to utilize his soon to be old rig as a dedicated streaming pc. I plan on buying a capture card if needed since I don't know how the NDI stuff will affect my network and the gaming on my end. The specs of said streaming pc are as follows:

 

I5 9600k

16gb ddr4

rtx 3050 8gb or rtx 2060 6gb (both are an option)

 

Any input is appreciated as I have not alot of knowledge about dedicated streaming PCs. What resolution could this setup handle for the stream?

are you streaming from like an xbox as source or what is the purpose of the capture card?
Tbh this is incredibly overkill and you should not have any issues i think. a capture pc wouldnt even need a gpu unless you want to utilize nvenc, but the cpu should be able to handle it.

He will be streaming gameplay from his new pc.

Then youll need a capture card to plug to the monitor or preferably directly to the PC. Encoding wise the Intel CPU should be more than good enough via QSV or even x264 software encoding if you want maximum quality, you wont need to run NVENC encoder.
