Other details:

Here are my current pc specifications: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/zsZWH2

I currently use this PC Daily, playing at 1440p. Most recently been playing Last of Us.

I am looking to do a new build that can handle at least 1440p 144hz, I do not need any peripherals.

I am looking to buy/build in the near future.

It has been a very long time since I have looked into building a new computer and I am not caught up on all the new hardware, my knowledge is pretty much cut off at around 2020/21. Any recommendations and builds would be very grateful along with information regarding the components as I start to get back into this!

If you have any questions about anything I have (probably) missed I will be happy to provide.

Thank you

i would recomend getting a 5800x3d and a rx 6800 non xt. and maybe 2 more sticks of that ram

Don't even need a CPU upgrade, the 3700x is still more than capable of running with a 6800xt at 1440p no problem.  The only AM4 CPUs that people should be upgrading to zen 3 from are zen or zen+.  Zen 2 is a lot faster.

But yeah, Op I'd just get a faster GPU.  The rest of your system is still great, but a 6800xt or 3080 would double your framerate in everything.  More RAM too if you think you need it.

Ah okay nice, was just currently looking at some 6800xt & 3080 prices.Looks like 6800xt starts at a price around £530 and the RTX 3080 starts at around £660-£850 > £1000+

One thing I was thinking of is what the upgrade path would be like, lets say after upgrading my GPU for example and in a years time I would like to upgrade something else such as my CPU, with my current build in terms of CPUs it is the 5000s series without needing to change my motherboard etc (I think).

I think my question is would it be better to just upgrade for now or look into build something new?

Let's put it this way:

If you put a new GPu in the system you have right now, by the time that GPU is too slow, you'll be looking at probably just getting a whole new system.  95% of game performance comes down to you GPU and monitor most of the time.  The rest of the system's primary job (to put it simplly) is to support those two things.  The rest of your system can support one of those GPUs in gaming adequately.

Onces the 6800xt or 3080 is too slow for you to game with and you want a faster GPU, then you can just get a whole new system.  But until then, everything else your system should not need to be upgraded.  But that will not be for a long time, as those are fast GPUs.
