First time ever PC build. need help.

jaxzor42

Budget (including currency): 3000$

Country: Austria

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 4k Gaming

Other details: I have already bought following components:

Case : NZXT H7 Flow

MB: Gigabyte x670 Aorus Elite AX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

RAM: Kingston Fury 2x16 GB 5600MHz

Storage: Kingston MC3000 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD

GPU: Sapphire RX 7900 XTX Nitro+

PSU: NZXT C1000

CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken x73

Case fan: 4x NZXT Aer P 120

other parts: PSU extension cables, NZXT RGB Fan & Controller, AC-2RGBC-B1,  Thermalright AM5 Secure Frame Mounting Bracket.

I watched countless videos how to build a pc... the steps the cable management, etc....

still have some questions:

1.Is the MB ryzen zen 4 ready? or i must do the BIOS flash update before installing the CPU?

2.can i connect the Kraken x73 to the RGB fan hub, or i can only connect it to the AIO connector on MB... and if so will the AIO fans sync with the rest of RGB fans that are connected to the fan controller?

3.I checked what fans come with the Kraken x73 and decided to order 4 ore of these as case fans...later on i saw they are static pressure fans...can i keep them and use 4 static pressure fans as case fans...or should i replace them with airflow fans?

4.is it enough to touch a piece of metal i have on the desk to discharge static before i work inside the case?

5. what drivers should i install after windows installation? until now i only had prebuilds and after every windows reinstall i only updated the graphic driver and the windows was saying i have all latest drivers installed for the rest of hardware.

thank you!

1) It will certainly be zen 4 ready cause we've just started a new motherboard socket and if it wasn't zen 4 ready the board wouldn't support any CPUs. However, it might need an update to support the 7800X3D specifically. Upon checking the manual, all current 7000 series chips require to F3 bios, and since there are no other chips to support, it will have shipped with the correct bios.

4) The metal must be grounded to actually provide any benefit. Plugging your PSU into the wall but leaving it turned off and touching that occationally is a better option, but best practice is an anti static strap connected to your PSU.

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Expand for common PC building advice, a short bio and a list of my components and other tech. I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Please try to be clear and specific, you'll get a better answer. Please remember to mark solutions once you have the information you need.

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

What's the latency on that RAM? Since you're spending that much, might as well get 6000MHZ speed.

Those chosen NZXT fans are in a weird place, no mans land. Not high performance nor bang for the buck, I bet they'll perform no better than the Artic 5 pack fans.

Doesn't the H7 case already come with a fan hub? NZXT's known for being expensive cause cases usually come with all the bells and whistles. Double check to make sure you're not buying twice.

2. Whatever you do, something will have to be plugged into the CPU FAN header. Yes, you can plug alll your fans into the hub and then plug the hub itself into the motherboards fan header. I've done that myself, 2 radiator and 2 exhaust fans, all 4 are plugged into my hub which then is plugged into the CPU fan header.

3. Static pressure fans will still work even when there is no radiator behind/infront of them. You'll theoretically lose out on some airflow but I don't think it's the end of the world.

5. Just download the windows installer to install windows, once that's up and running just do GPU drivers. Windows will download everything it needs on its own in the background without troubling you.

1. check on board vendor site what BIOS version you need, as the 7800X3D is new the old BIOS for 7000 non 3D may not work

2. RGB hub is better/cleaner eventually the hub is connected to the board somewhere (4pin header or USB) that's how you can sync it

3. Not an issue, keep your NZXT fans for homogeneity they'll work ok a case fans (the reverse isn't true)

4. if you're grounded yes

5. AMD chipset drivers too

You don't need to BIOS flash a board that was created for AM5.

You may want to look at the Gigabyte B650 AORUS Elite AX or Pro AX, cheaper and same performance.

I would up your RAM to at least 6000MHz, or OC it to that.

You don't need the Frame Bracket.  AM5 doesn't need it.

Power cable to the AIO header, RGB cable to the NZXT hub, which connects to the RGB header. Use the included software to sync the lights, or get SignalRGB or OpenRGB.

Static electricity will discharge onto a person, animal or piece of metal.  I accidentally shocked my cat's nose once. Best practice is to touch something (metal) that is plugged in. If you have a grounding strap, wear  it so it's touching bare skin on whichever limb you won't be moving around so you don't accidentally pull it off the grounding device. I like to connect mine to a USB cable that's plugged into a charging port.

Make sure that Windows is fully updated, then install drivers for your mobo and CPU from their sites, then your GC (from the GPU maker, not the GC maker). After that, any other devices that have drivers (e.g. printers, scanners, pointing devices), and the case if you want.

That depends on how significant the barriers to airflow are on the case, such as narrow air inlets, screens and mesh.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

6000MHz or OC it past that.

I heard AM5's infinity fabric's ratio changes past 6000MHz past 1:1 so you'll get worse results the higher you go, pretty much no point going higher for AMD right now, aka 6000MHz right now is soft cap.

thank you all for your help...

the CPU came yesterday i managed to put it together today...I changed the AIO with a air cooler (after i drilled through the radiator.. was lucky only the fins were perforated and it was not leaking, didn't want to risk it though and i went for a aircooler) and decided to not use extension cables (to many cables not enough space, without them i ended up with fast and decent cable management)..

updated the bios...undervolted a bit the cpu and gpu, everything works perfectly... the only thing it worries me is... when i start up or after a restart 3 red leds pop up on mb 1by1 (not in the same time) then the fans go wild for 2-3 seconds then when the windows loads everything is stable, i get 60-65 celsius on cpu / gpu while gaming) i don't really know what`s the issue.

  • 2 weeks later...

Guys, sorry to bother you again...I ran into another issue...on startup the LED on the MB turns on in a pattern 1by1 starting with CPU > RAM > VGA > BOOT

CPU and BOOT LED stay ON for a second...the RAM and VGA stay on for about 5-10 seconds...

I can also hear 2 beeps.

Until the entire sequence is finished and the BOOT LED turns off i have no signal on the screen...

Sometimes after the windows loads, the monitor turns off and on (sometimes even twice) all by itself...followed by AMD Adrenaline popping up a bug report...

never had any issue while gaming / normal PC usage.. the system works perfect, only the sequence on startup and sometimes few seconds after windows loads are irritating.
