Internet Connection Issue

Hello there,

I got a problem with my internet connection. So I have an in wall ethernet cable, when I connect it to my MacBook, the internet speed is 500mbps (as I expect), but when I connect it to my desktop PC I only get 100mbps (the motherboard network card is Realtek PCIe GbE Family) . Not sure why I don't have the full speed on my PC, any tips?

what is the exact model of the network card?

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Trust but Verify! I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.

He/Him - I'm a PhD student working in the fields of reinforcement learning and traffic control. If your motherboard or NIC is 1gbps, you may be missing ethernet drivers. I've seen this a couple of times, with 1gbps motherboards and NICs only running in 100mbps mode when driver is missing.

Oh, it's integrated and not an add in network card. okay.

 

I'm enclined to agree with @BetteBalterZen , when you built your PC did you install all the drivers?

It's an old PC, It previously worked with higher internet speeds without having me to install anything. I reinstalled Windows and also changed location since then, so not sure what happened, also had a laptop that only worked 100mbps. Firstly I thought that the cable is the culprit, but as it's working fine on my MacBook, that's probably not the issue.

Just installed the network driver from my motherboard site, no luck 😞 .
