1. Budget & Location

USA, 3-3.5k

2. Aim

Primarily Gaming, and other generalized computer nonsense.

3. Monitors

Plan to use at least 2 if not 3 monitors.  Buying one that will be 1440p, others will only be 1080 as that's all I have.  Eventually will upgrade to at least a primary monitor that can do 4k.

4. Peripherals

Coming from using a laptop, so i will be buying a monitor and keyboard.  Already have a mouse that works well for me.  Will be buying windows as well.

5. Why are you upgrading?

First build, finally after years of working my ass off and getting through life im finally at the point that i can afford to build a pc.  This has been a dream of mine for as long as i can remember.

6. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

So i tried to break down below kind of my thought process on each part incase you needed further info.

Cpu: Went with the I9 even though its overkill because it does indeed improve performance over both the i5 and i7 and was within my budget. I seriously looked at the new 7800x3d but i didnt think it provided enough of an improvement over the intel chips. I was also not impressed by the selection of motherboards available for amd cpus.

Cooler: I went with the Arctic LF II 420 because from all my research it seems to be the best you can get, and the price seems to be the best as well.

MB: After doing a bit of research the Gigabyte Gaming X AX seemed to have all the features i wanted while still staying under 300$.

RAM: wanted 6000+ at 10 or lower First Word, This seemed to be the best specced ram at a good price.

Storage: Wanted a Samsung 980 pro, and another storage. Honestly didnt want to have to fight with decision on which drive to store any given game so i went with the same drive. I know thats a little dumb, but hey.

GPU: Was originally considering the 7900xtx but i wanted to go with the 4080 for the possibility of raytracing. and just overall seemed to be a better performer.

Case: This i have gone through so many selections, i eventually landed on this case after watching alot of videos on builds using various cases. I wanted a case that could fit the 420 in a top mounted position, as well as a case that was big enough to be easy to work in for my first time. And i wouldnt mind eventually upgrading to a custom loop down the road and this case will also handle that easily.

Powersupply: Was using a filter for cheapest ATX 3.0 high on the PSU Tier list. Currently its landed on the Montech Titan Gold. I know 1200w is a little overkill but i know the i9 and the 4080 can be a bit power hungry so i wanted plenty to be available.

Case Fans: Just picked up some extra fans to fill out the rest of the case. Will use the fans coming with the case as front intake, use the Arctic as side (120s) intake and the rear (140) exhaust. Top radiator will cover top exhaust.

Monitor: This seemed to be the best bang for the buck 1440p high refresh monitor.

Keyboard: Wanted a decent mechanical 100% keyboard that wasnt too expensive. can always upgrade later.

Duttek cable is because the case needs 2 3.2 Gen 1 headers and my motherboard only has one.

I am about 2 or 3 weeks from pulling the trigger and i know prices may change a tad but i wanted to make sure im not missing anything. I am coming from using a laptop for years, so i have a mouse, but needed a keyboard and Monitor. Ive tried to do as much research on everything as i could but watching alot of youtube doesnt = experience. Thanks in advance for any advice and help!

If you need any further information please let me know.

Did you look at this in the perspective of current scalping price of 800$ or are you looking at this in MSRP of 450$? Because 13900K is 50$ more expensive, harder to cool, and needs a contact frame to fix said cooling issue while AMD is more creature comfort for a more level cold weld contact with the heatspreader. Diamond hands, 7800X3D would be a far better CPU.

Then youll be awfully aware that its hard to find cases for it, 360mm is more common. But hey, if you want it then it is possible to get them.

For Intel you want the highest frequency, not latency. You can straight face just run 6800+ RAM with high CL40 latency on it. But i am going AMD on this rebuild so the opposite is true.

Bleh, its fine to get identical drive for different purpose, its just not optimal for cost per gigabyte and thats it. I personally think that budget 4.0 drives are fine for the most part and 3.0 is still very viable for both boot drive and game drive as even in Forspoken (first proper directstorage title) the difference between 3.0 to 5.0 is around 1 second.

If you account for ray traced performance yes, the 4080 is just better especially with access to nvidia-specific settings in certain games like DLSS 3 with Deep Learning Frame Generation. Theyre bad today, but im gonna bet theyll be better and better by time just like DLSS 1 was a trash heap of fire. For raw rasterization though, XTX fights 4090 in value and sit in between 4080 and 4090 in performance for 200$ and 600$ less respectively.

Ive said it before, shopping cases to fit 420mm is pain. Its either your pick or Lancool 3, pick a poison.

Its fine to go for dedicated 12VHPWR but remember that both adapters and dedicated would still burn without proper connection on 12VHPWR. And besides, the power and heat of the 4000 series Nvidia and 7000 series AMD is so much lower in burden than the previous generation, you can genuinely run it through an 850W PSU.

Nope, cheap doesnt equal good value especially in fast paced games. G27Q exists for 40$ more with far better response times and color.

KM360 by G.Skill is only 5$ extra if you dont mind TKL and thats 1000hz instead of 125hz. More close to endgame. Im gonna assume youve had a mouse.

I think this would be a much better build for you, I did keep some things you wanted but had to change most of it so that it actually made sense, I have been building PCs for 30 years so if you have any questions please let me know.
