Hi Guys,

I'm new here and new to PC gaming. I currently have a PC with a potato of a CPU and motherboard but it's a good case and a decent 450W power supply.

I don't have a big budget for building a gaming PC, my thoughts were to build up over time and would appreciate some advice.

Current plan:

Step 1: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G upgrade kit. I've done some research and the 5600G has integrated graphics and figured it should be decent enough to play on. Not with the best graphics or FPS but something to start.

https://www.evetech.co.za/ryzen-5-5600g-b450m-pro-vdh-max-8gb-3600mhz-upgrade-kit/best-deal/16440.aspx

Step 2: Upgrade power supply. Not sure which one yet but good enough to support the graphics card from the next step. But will get there when I get there.

Step 3: Get a Graphics Card. Again not sure which one. Will do more research when I get there.

Step 4: Get a new CPU?

I'm looking to do this over the course of about a year but want to get going as soon as possible. Games I'm looking to play. WarZone 2, Apex Legends, various sports titles. Happy with 30FPS until I get the graphics card.

Any thoughts or opinions?

i currently am doing a similer thing to you. but i do not reccomend. if you already have a am4 mobo get a cheaper ryzen chip and a budget gpu. you can get rx 580s for about 100 pounds you could also go for a 1650 gtx 970-80 (only used) rx 570 these will perform much better than the vega 8 on the cpu. then you can slowly upgrade cpu and gpu and psu. your psu should be fine for a slower am4 cpu and a budget gpu. my 5600g can run apex and warzone 2 but you have to reduse the resaloution a ton to get 30 fps to the point of it not being playable

Getting a 5000G is a good start, as it's still a good CPU for when you add a GPU.   What do you have now all told?  Your current PSU may be fine for the 5600/RAM/Mobo, and just need to get a new one when you get a GPU.

What is your budget now?   We may be able to recommend other options such as @Tomberry has said.

@Tomberry @Dedayog Thanks guys.

Current motherboard is an AM1 slot so there is no hope of upgrading it. I would like to get a CPU that I can use now and add to it for a decent machine rather than getting a cheaper CPU and GPU and replacing both. I'm in SA so even "budget" CPUs and GPUs are expensive here so would rather just spend once.

That's really disappointing to hear. Is there a RAM limitation? I read that for integrated graphics faster RAM is important. Is there another mid-high tier CPU with integrated graphics that could be an option?

The 3600MHz RAM is great but 1 stick isn't.  I would go with 2x8 3600MHz or even 3200MHz.  Definite performance difference in 1 stick vs 2 in Dual Channel.

Is this doable for you?

Thanks @Dedayog

Two 3600 sticks is definitely something I can do.
